TKS Finance Limited is a Sri Lankan public limited company which worked as a licensed finance company accepting deposits from general public. It served as one of the licensed finance companies in Sri Lanka since commencing the operations in 2011. [1] On 19 September 2019, Central Bank of Sri Lanka decided to cancel the license of the company due to insufficient capital and financial problems regarding repaying depositors' money on demand as well as before maturity. [2]

Corporate history

The TKS Finance was incorporated as a public limited company in 2009 but started its operations two years later after incorporation on 17 June 2011. The company was started mainly through the funding from Malaysian investors. [3] [4] The company was licensed by the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka under the Finance Business Act no 42 of 2011. [4] As of 2019, the company had about 12 branches across the country.

Rasika Kaluarachchi served as the first CEO of the company and in 2018 Abdul Azim was appointed as new chairman of TKS Finance.

Mangala Samaraweera Sri Lankan politician

Mangala Pinsiri Samaraweera, better known as Mangala Samaraweera, is a Sri Lankan politician. He is a former Minister of Finance from 2017 to 2019, Minister of Foreign Affairs, for two terms from 2005 to 2007 and 2015 to 2017. He created a stir in Sri Lankan politics when he was sacked as a minister by President Mahinda Rajapakse in 2007, after which he formed a new political party called the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (Mahajana) Wing, which later merged with the United National Party in 2010.

Harsha de Silva Sri Lankan politician

Harsha de Silva is a Sri Lankan economist and politician. He serves as a member of Parliament of Sri Lanka, as the Non Cabinet Minister of Economic Reforms and Public Distribution and was the former State Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs and previously served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.

He is the founding Chairman of the Vallibel One Group and has been the managing director of it since 2011 and also currently the Deputy chairman of Hayleys. He is also known for frequently addressing the required policy framework for the country.

Ranee Jayamaha also spelt as Rani Jayamaha is a Sri Lankan economist, author and banker. She served as the chairperson of Hatton National Bank from 2011 to 2015. In addition, she is currently an advisor to the President of Sri Lanka in Banking and a former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (2004–2009). She has also served as a member of the Insurance Board of Sri Lanka and a member of Securities and Exchange Commission.

Lakshman Arjuna Mahendran is a Sri Lankan born, Singaporean economist and banker. He is a former Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), having been appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena in January 2015 and served until the end of his term in 30 June 2016. He was the former Managing Director of HSBC Private Bank, Chief Investment Officer of Emirates NBD as well as Chairman and Director-General of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka. Mahendran is currently residing in Singapore, which has refused to extradite him on a request from Sri Lanka routed through interpol.

Deshamanya Weligamage Don Lakshman popularly known as Professor W. D. Lakshman is a Sri Lankan economist, professor, lecturer, academic and author who is also the current Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and current chairman of the Monetary Board of the CBSL. Kasturi Angela Chellaraja Wilson is a businesswoman and the first female Group CEO of a public quoted conglomerate in Sri Lanka. At present she is the Managing Director of Hemas Pharmaceuticals PVT LTD and Hemas Surgicals and Diagnostics PVT LTD; subsidiaries of Hemas Holdings PLC. On 25 June 2020, it was announced that she would take over as Group CEO of Hemas Holdings PLC from current Group CEO, Steven Enderby; effective 1st October 2020. It was also announced that Kasturi would be appointed as a Non-Executive Director of Hemas Holdings PLC, effective from the 1st of July 2020.

Ishara Chinthaka Nanayakkara is a Sri Lankan entrepreneur and businessman. As of December 2019, he is the current richest man in Sri Lanka. He is currently serving as the deputy group chairman of the LOLC. His father Rajah Nanayakkara was also a prominent businessman and he died in 2017 at the age of 77.

Edirisinghe Trust Investments Finance Limited also popularly known as ETI Finance is a Sri Lankan private limited company as well as a non banking financial institution which worked as a licensed finance company accepting deposits from general public. The company's business was primarily based on lending money on gold securities. On 13 July 2020, Central Bank of Sri Lanka decided to cancel the license of the company due to insufficient capital and financial problems regarding repaying depositors' money on demand as well as before maturity.
