TVALB is an Albanian-American IPTV/OTT platform designed for streaming TV channels from all over the world. [1] Particularly, it was created for the Albanian community living in the US and Canada to provide them with their native video content. [2] [3]

TVALB provides VOD (video on demand), live television, catch-up TV, and other IPTV services. It transmits the main Albanian media, such as DigitAlb, Tring, Artmotion, Kujtesa, Klan Kosova, RTSH, Top Channel, Top News and others. As of 2021, TVALB is the only Albanian IPTV licensed to broadcast DigitAlb channels in the USA and Canada. [4] The popular reality game shows Big Brother VIP Albania and Big Brother VIP Kosova are also available on TVALB for the Albanian diaspora in the United States and Canada. [5]

History

TVALB is the product of the Albanian-American IPTV service company "FTAmarket". Since 2002, FTAmarket has been providing media services to the Albanian community in the USA and Canada. TVALB was founded in 2006 to show Albanian TV content to all Albanians living abroad with IPTV system services. This VOD platform streams hundreds of TV channels from Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia, and other countries. [6]

In 2021, the Consulate General of the Republic of Kosovo in New York visited TVALB to express their support of Albanians and compatriots’ businesses. [7] [8]

Since 2021, TVALB is the only Albanian IPTV licensed to broadcast DigitAlb channels in America.

Services

TVALB is operated by a team of Albanians in New York City. The platform provides IPTV/OTT services, such as VOD, live TV, catch-up TV, and others, using the latest world IPTV technologies.

The company collaborates with DigitAlb, RTSH, Tring, Artmotion, and other Albanian media. TVALB offers 2000 worldwide channels, 250 Albanian TV channels (more than 50 Digitalb channels, as well as Tring, and others), and 40 sports and film channels.

For delivering media, TVALB uses set-top boxes equipped with Wi-Fi.

Radio Televizioni Shqiptar is the national public broadcasting company of Albania. Founded in 1938, it operates several radio and television channels, over a domestic transmitter network as well as satellite. The international television service via satellite RTSH Sat was launched in 1993 and is aimed at Albanian-speaking communities in Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and northern Greece, plus the Albanian diaspora in the rest of Europe. RTSH is funded by a combination of commercial advertising, an annual licence fee of US$10.00 and grant-in-aid from the Albanian government.

DigitAlb Sh.A is an Albanian media, digital satellite and terrestrial TV platform based in Tirana, Albania. The TV platform began terrestrial broadcasts on 15 July 2004, and satellite broadcasts by the end of that year. At the same time, DigitAlb began broadcasting some channels of defunct AlbaniaSat's satellite platform SAT + which eventually went bankrupt. DigitAlb closely collaborates with absorbing sports package SuperSport while having introduced wireless DVB-H technology for wireless TV for the first time in Albania since 2006. On 15 July 2022, to celebrate 18 years, Digitalb launched its OTT service.

Television in Kosovo was first introduced in 1974. The Radio Television of Pristina was the first Albanian-speaking broadcaster in Kosovo, founded in 1974 following Radio Pristina's founding in 1945. It was forcefully shut down in 1990 by the Yugoslavian government, forbidding the flow of information through Kosovan airwaves during the Kosovo War. In wartime, the information blackout was covered by Radio 21 and Koha Ditore, while television was under the sole ownership of the Radio Television of Serbia.

SuperSport is an Albanian group of television sports channels operated by terrestrial television platform DigitAlb. The channels broadcast a range of different sports such as the English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, German Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, Dutch Eredivisie, French Ligue 1 and Ligue 2, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Euro, UEFA Europa Conference League, Copa América, ATP 500, ATP 1000, IAAF, etc.

Big Brother VIP Kosova is a Kosovan reality game show based on the Dutch reality competition franchise Big Brother. The show follows a number of celebrity contestants, known as housemates, who are isolated from the outside world for an extended period of time in a custom built house. Each week, one of the housemates is evicted by a public vote, with the last housemate named the winner. Like Big Brother VIP Albania, it includes ethnic Albanians from the Balkans and the Diaspora.
