TVRI South Kalimantan (Indonesian: TVRI Kalimantan Selatan, often shortened to TVRI Kalsel) is a regional television station owned by TVRI, based in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan.
TVRI installed a relay station in Banjarmasin on VHF channel 5 in 1977, initially relaying the national service from Jakarta. [1]
The situation began to change in 1982 TVRI installed Mobile Production Stations. This method was reverted in 2000 when the last such stations were converted into full-fledged local stations. [2] The Banjarmasin station was created in this method per a decree on 18 May 1985, while beginning its broadcasts on 5 August 1985, with a staff of 18 employees. [3]
On 22 May 1996, TVRI Banjarmasin upgraded to a Production Station, however its programs were still seen on the national network. In 2001, coinciding with the 48th anniversary of the creation of the province, test broadcasts of a full-fledged local station were conducted, with transmitters located in Kandangan and Amundai. [3]
As of Ramadan 2024, the station employs 105 staff. Local programming is seen on the station from 5:30am to 10pm, though it is interrupted for two hours to air simulcasts of national news from Jakarta in the morning, with the morning edition of Klik Indonesia and Jendela Negeri; then again for another hours at 7pm for main edition of Klik Indonesia.
