The men's team competition of the table tennis events at the 2011 Pan American Games was held between 15 and 17 October 2011 at the CODE Dome in Guadalajara, Mexico. [1] The defending Pan American Games champion was Brazil (Hugo Hoyama, Thiago Monteiro and Gustavo Tsuboi).
The round robin will be used as a qualification round. The twelve teams will be split into groups of four. The top two teams from each group will advance to the first round of playoffs. [2]

Hugo Hoyama is a retired Brazilian table tennis player of Japanese origin who has won several medals in single, double and team events in the Pan American Games and in the Latin American Championships. He competed in six editions of the Olympic Games in his career, between Barcelona 1992 and London 2012, and seven Pan American Games, from Indianapolis 1987 to Guadalajara 2011. Along with Gustavo Tsuboi and Thiago Monteiro, Hoyama was part of the winning team at the 2007 Pan American Games and 2011 Pan American Games.
Mo Zhang is a female Chinese-born table tennis player who now represents Canada. She was born in Shijiazhuang, and currently resides in Vancouver.
Canada, which is represented by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), has competed at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico from October 14 to 30, 2011. The Canadian team was made up of 492 athletes, the most ever for a non-home Games. On the team all ten provinces and the Northwest Territories are represented. Some sports such as wrestling have sent their strongest team, however sports which offer the most medals have sent for the most part a developmental team. Table Tennis player Anqi Luo was Canada's youngest athlete at the Games while Equestrian athlete Ian Millar was Canada's eldest athlete competing in Guadalajara. Canada has competed in 35 out of the 36 sports on the program. On October 4, 2011, women's football star Christine Sinclair was selected to carry the flag during the opening ceremony. The chef de mission was Jacques Cardyn and the assistant chef de mission was Curt Harnett.
