Tagesse Chafo (Amharic:ታገሰጫፎ) is an Ethiopian politician and current Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives since 2018. He was elected as speaker on 18 October 2018 succeeding Muferiat Kamil who became the Minister of Peace. [1] [2] He was re-elected as the Speaker of the House of Peoples' Representatives on 4 October 2021. [3]
Prior to becoming Speaker,Tagesse was the Minister for Public Service and Human Resource Development from 2017 to 2018. [4]
Tagesse Chafo was born in the Southern Nations,Nationalities and People's Region (SNNPR). He has a Master of Business Administration in senior management from OU Business School in UK and Master of Science &Aquaculture from AMU in India. In addition,he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from Addis Ababa University. [5]
He previously served as the Minister for Public Service and Human Resource Development from 2017 to 2018. He also held various positions in SNNPR including Vice President,Head of Investment Commission,Head of Bureau of Trade and Industry Bureau. Additionally,Tagesse also served as a board member and chairman of various institutions like Arba Minch University,Ethiopian Sugar Development Corporation,South Water Works Construction Enterprise and Public Service Social Security Agency. Tagesso was a member of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and the Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement (SEPDM). During Abiy Ahmed premiership,Tagesso has been a member of Prosperity Party and he was elected as Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives on 18 October 2018. Dilla is a market town and separate woreda in southern Ethiopia. The administrative center of the Gedeo Zone in the former Southern Nations,Nationalities,and Peoples Region (SNNPR) now it is South Ethiopia Regional State (SER),it is located on the main road from Addis Ababa to Nairobi. The town has a longitude and latitude of 6°24′30″N38°18′30″E,with an elevation of 1570 meters above sea level. It was part of Wenago woreda and is currently surrounded by Dilla Zuria woreda.
Sodo or officially Wolaita Sodo is a city in south Ethiopia. The City is a political and administrative center of the Wolaita Zone and South Ethiopia Regional State. It has a latitude and longitude of 6°54′N37°45′E with an elevation between 1,600 and 2,100 metres above sea level. It was part of the former Sodo woreda which included Sodo Zuria which completely surrounds it.
The Southern Ethiopian People's Democratic Movement (SEPDM) was a political party in Ethiopia. At the legislative elections on 15 May 2005,the party was part of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front,that won 327 out of 527 seats in the Council of People's Representatives.
Konso is a zone in the South Ethiopia Regional State,Ethiopia. It was formerly a woreda. Prior to 2011,Konso was not part of any Zone in the Southern Nations,Nationalities and Peoples' Region (SNNPR) and was therefore considered a special woreda,an administrative subdivision which is similar to an autonomous area. In 2011,the Segen Area Peoples Zone was established,which includes Konso special woreda and the 3 former woredas surrounding it. This special woreda is named after the Konso people. Located in the Great Rift Valley,Konso is bordered on the south by the Oromia Region,on the west by the South Omo Zone,on the northwest by Alle special woreda,on the north by Dirashe special woreda,on the northeast by Amaro special woreda,and on the east by Burji special woreda. The Sagan River,which flows south then west to join the Weito,defines part of the woreda's boundary with Burji and the entire length of the boundary with the Oromia Region. The administrative center is Karati;other towns in Konso include Fasha and Sagen. After protesting by residents to become a zone for several years,Konso became a zone in November 2018.
Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe is an Ethiopian politician who served as prime minister of Ethiopia from 2012 to 2018. He also previously served as deputy prime minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs under Prime Minister Meles Zenawi from 2010 to 2012. After Meles' death in August 2012,Hailemariam succeeded him as prime minister,initially in an acting capacity. He was then elected as the chair of the EPRDF,the ruling party,on 15 September 2012. Hailemariam also served as the chairperson of the African Union from 2013 to 2014.
The Welayta,or Wolaitans are an ethnic group located in Southwestern Ethiopia. According to the most recent estimate (2017),the people of Wolayta numbered 5.83 million in Welayta Zone. The language of the Wolayta people,similarly called Wolaytta,belongs to the Omotic branch of the Afro-Asiatic language family. Wolayita or Wolaita is an administrative zone in Ethiopia. Wolayita is bordered on the south by Gamo Zone,on the west by the Omo River which separates it from Dawro,on the northwest by Kembata Zone and Tembaro Special Woreda,on the north by Hadiya,on the northeast by the Oromia Region,on the east by the Bilate River which separates it from Sidama Region,and on the south east by the Lake Abaya which separates it from Oromia Region. The administrative centre of Wolayita is Sodo. Other major towns are Areka,Boditi,Tebela,Bale Hawassa,Gesuba,Gununo,Bedessa and Dimtu.

Abiy served as the third chairman of the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) that governed Ethiopia for 28 years and the first person of Oromo descent to hold that position. Abiy is a member of the Ethiopian parliament,and was a member of the Oromo Democratic Party (ODP),one of the then four coalition parties of the EPRDF,until its rule ceased in 2019 and he formed his own party,the Prosperity Party.
Muferihat Kamil Ahmed is an Ethiopian politician who is the current Minister of Labour and Skills Development. She was the Speaker of the House of People's Representatives. Muferihat previously served as the first Minister of Peace from October 2018 to 6 October 2021. She was the Chair of the SEPDM,one of the four parties that make up the former ruling coalition in Ethiopia,the EPRDF.

The Transitional Government of Tigray was a caretaker administration that was formally declared by the House of Federation of Ethiopia on 7 November 2020,in the context of a conflict between the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF),in power in the Tigray Regional State and the federal government of Ethiopia. In late November 2020,the administration,headed by Mulu Nega,planned public consultation and participation in choosing new leaders at the regional and zonal level and preservation of woreda and kebele administrations. The civil wars caused substantial human rights violations,war crimes,and extrajudicial killings.
Million Mathewos is an Ethiopian politician who has been the State Minister of Mines,Petroleum Development and Control since 2021. Previously,he had served with state Minister of Education from 2019 to 2021.
