Tamara-Anna Cislowska is an Australian concert pianist. She has performed across many countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, South America, Italy, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, Greece, The Netherlands and Poland, and has played with the Philharmonia, the London Philharmonic and Romanian Philharmonic orchestras as well as all six major Australian symphony orchestras.
Cislowska was taught the rudiments of the piano by her mother, Neta Maughan. She emerged as a child prodigy, giving her first public performance at age two. She began recording material for ABC Radio at three years of age. One of her first mentors was Nancy Salas, and she later studied with Geoffrey Tozer. She won the most[ clarification needed ] prizes of the McDonalds Sydney Performing Arts Challenge over three categories; instrumental, speech and drama, singing. She won the 1991 ABC Symphony Australia Young Performers Awards, Australia's most prestigious classical music award, at the age of 14, becoming the youngest pianist ever to do so. A year later she was sent to Sydney's sister cities on a tour as a cultural ambassador, visiting Nagoya, Wellington and San Francisco. Cislowska was a founding member of the Australian Young Performers Trio, St Laurence Trio, Mozart Piano Quartet (Berlin) and Australia Piano Quartet. [1]
Cislowska's recordings include five solo albums on the Artworks label, including The Enchanted Isle, The Persian Hours and The Russians. She has recorded for Naxos, Chandos, Dabringhaus and Grimm, ABC Classics, and Deutsche Grammophon. She has contributed to albums with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
As a recitalist she has performed at the Purcell Room in London, the Concert Hall of the Sydney Opera House, the Kleine Zaal of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and in New York at the Frick Collection and Carnegie Hall.
As of 2021 [update] , on ABC Classic radio, Cislowska hosts the weekly program Duet, described as an hour of music and conversation at the keyboard. [2]
She has received a number of awards and honours for her work and has been a major prizewinner at several international piano competitions, including the Rovere d'Oro, Maria Callas and National World Power.[ citation needed ]
She was the recipient of a David Paul Landa Memorial Scholarship for Pianists (sometime before 2004) [3]
She is a Freedman Fellow. She has an APRA award for Best Performance ACT. Her work has received six nominations for ARIA awards for Best Classical Release.[ citation needed ]
At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 Cislowska won Best Classical Album for Peter Sculthorpe: Complete Works for Solo Piano. [4]

Vladimir Davidovich Ashkenazy is a Russian solo pianist, chamber music performer, and conductor. Born in the Soviet Union, he has held Icelandic citizenship since 1972 and has been a resident of Switzerland since 1978. Ashkenazy has collaborated with well-known orchestras and soloists. In addition, he has recorded a large repertoire of classical and romantic works. His recordings have earned him seven Grammy Awards and Iceland's Order of the Falcon.
Elena Davidovna Kats-Chernin is a Soviet-born Australian composer and pianist, best known for her ballet Wild Swans.
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra (SSO) is an Australian symphony orchestra based in Sydney. With roots going back to 1908, the orchestra was made a permanent professional orchestra on the formation of the Australian Broadcasting Commission in 1932. The orchestra has performed at the Sydney Opera House as its home concert hall, since the venue's opening in 1973. Simone Young is the orchestra's chief conductor and the first female conductor in the post.
Peter Joshua Sculthorpe was an Australian composer. Much of his music resulted from an interest in the music of countries neighbouring Australia as well as from the impulse to bring together aspects of Aboriginal Australian music with that of the heritage of the West. He was known primarily for his orchestral and chamber music, such as Kakadu (1988) and Earth Cry (1986), which evoke the sounds and feeling of the Australian bushland and outback. He also wrote 18 string quartets, using unusual timbral effects, works for piano, and two operas. He stated that he wanted his music to make people feel better and happier for having listened to it. He typically avoided the dense, atonal techniques of many of his contemporary composers. His work was often characterised by its distinctive use of percussion. As one of the compositional pioneers of a distinctively Australian sound, Sculthorpe and his music have been likened to the role played by Aaron Copland in America's musical coming of age.

Benjamin Northey is an Australian conductor, musician and arranger. He has been Chief Conductor of the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra in New Zealand since 2015. He is also the Principal Conductor and Artistic Advisor - Learning and Engagement of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra having previously been Principal Conductor in Residence from 2020-2023. He was previously the Associate Conductor of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra from 2010-2019. He is also the Artistic Director Designate of the Australian Conducting Academy, a national training program for Australian and New Zealand Conductors which he will commence in 2025.
Jayson Lloyd Gillham is an Australian-British classical pianist, based in London. In 2014, Gillham was the winner of the 2014 Montreal International Musical Competition. His performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 was described in the Huffington Post as being played 'with such streamlined patrician elegance that he took home First Prize and a string of engagements...' The British conductor Sir Mark Elder said Gillham 'plays Beethoven with a sort of 'glow''. In May 2015, Gillham signed a three-album deal with ABC Classics.
Włodzimierz Kamil Kamirski also known by his stage name Vladimir Kamirski was a Polish-Australian orchestral conductor. He adopted a stage name Vladimir around 1970 at the start of his career in Italy at the Teatro Alla Scala, but continued to release recordings as Włodzimierz Kamirski also.
