Classic 100 Music in the Movies

In 2013, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Music in the Movies countdown. [1]

Contents

The selection of works that was available in the survey was determined between 15 April and 26 April 2013 (with the public being able to add works to the list initiated by the station). Voting (by the public) for the finalised list of works was held between 3 May and 17 May 2013, and the countdown was broadcast from 7 to 10 June 2013. [2]

During 2009, the Australian ABC Classic FM radio station conducted a survey of listeners' favourite symphonies. Participants were permitted to vote for their three preferred symphonies. The survey closed at the end of June 2009.

During 2007, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Concerto countdown.

During 2004, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Piano countdown.

During 2010 the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Ten Years On countdown. The survey recreated the Classic 100 Original countdown held in 2001.

Since 2001, ABC Classic has organised a number of Classic 100 Countdown surveys. The results of each survey are decided by votes cast by the listeners of ABC Classic. After the voting, the works are played in reverse order of popularity over an intense period of programming. A feature of the countdown is that the top 100 pieces are kept secret until announced.

During 2011 the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Twentieth Century countdown.

In 2012, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held a Classic 100 Music of France countdown.

In 2014, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held the Classic 100 Baroque and Before countdown.

In 2015, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held the thirteenth of its annual Classic Music countdowns, during which the public votes for 100 favourite pieces. The chosen theme was "Swoon", which refers to a fainting and in this context is used to mean "little parcel of [musical] rapture" or music "that makes [the listeners'] world stand still." The Classic 100 Swoon countdown was broadcast in reverse order from 5 to 8 June.

In 2016, the Australian radio station ABC Classic FM held the fourteenth of its annual Classic Music countdowns, during which the public voted for 100 favourite pieces. The chosen theme was "Voice" and included opera, operetta, choral music and classical song. The Classic 100 Voice countdown was broadcast in reverse order from 10 to 13 June.

Damien Beaumont is a broadcaster and musician. He is most notable for his work as a broadcaster on Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio station ABC Classic FM.
