Mark Stephen Wrighton is an American academic and chemist, and former president of The George Washington University. In September 2021, Wrighton was named the Interim President of The George Washington University for an 18-month term and succeeded Thomas LeBlanc in January 2022. During his time at GWU, he was on sabbatical from Washington University in St. Louis where he is the James and Mary Wertsch Distinguished University Professor and Chancellor Emeritus. Wrighton served as the 14th Chancellor of Washington University in St. Louis from 1995 to 2019. In January 2023, it was announced that Ellen Granberg, a Provost at Rochester Institute of Technology, would succeed Wrighton as the next President of The George Washington University. Granberg took over as President on July 1, 2023.

Systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (SELEX), also referred to as in vitro selection or in vitro evolution, is a combinatorial chemistry technique in molecular biology for producing oligonucleotides of either single-stranded DNA or RNA that specifically bind to a target ligand or ligands. These single-stranded DNA or RNA are commonly referred to as aptamers. Although SELEX has emerged as the most commonly used name for the procedure, some researchers have referred to it as SAAB and CASTing SELEX was first introduced in 1990. In 2015, a special issue was published in the Journal of Molecular Evolution in the honor of quarter century of the discovery of SELEX.

The Beckman Young Investigators Award was established by Mabel and Arnold Beckman in 1991, and is now administered by the Arnold and Mabel Beckman Foundation. The Beckman Young Investigator (BYI) Program is intended to provide research support to promising young faculty members in the early stages of their academic careers. Awardees receive grant of roughly $600,000 over four years, "contingent on demonstrated progress after the second year". The intent is to foster "innovative departures" and the invention of methods, instruments and materials that will open up new avenues of research in the chemical and life sciences.
Theodore Lawrence Brown is an American scientist known for research, teaching, and writing in the field of physical inorganic chemistry, a university administrator, and a philosopher of science. In addition to his research publications, Brown has written textbooks on general chemistry and science communication which have been published in multiple languages and used in multiple countries. He is a professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he has also held the administrative positions of vice chancellor for research and dean of the graduate college (1980–1986). He is the founding director emeritus of the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology.

Ganapati Dadasaheb Yadav is an Indian chemical engineer, inventor and academic, known for his research on nanomaterials, gas absorption with chemical reaction and phase transfer catalysis. He served as the vice chancellor of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai from 2009 until November 2019. He is currently the Emeritus Professor of Eminence at ICT Mumbai.

Tang Aoqing, or Au-Chin Tang, was a Chinese theoretical chemist and educator, known as the "Father of Quantum Chemistry" in China. He established the Department of Chemistry of Jilin University, and served as President of the university from 1978 to 1986. He was a founding member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the International Academy of Quantum Molecular Science (IAQMS). He established the National Natural Science Foundation of China in 1986 and served as its first president.
