The Taoni/Tawni is a Rajput ethnic group who, dominated a region in Ambala district then a part of the Punjab until the period of the British India. [1] They are an offshoot of Bhati Rajputs of the Kingdom of Jaisalmer. [2] In areas surrounding Rajpura and Patiala they had 14 chhats and 24 makans, the chhats – being Banur, Shamdo, Kauli, Ghanaur, Patton, Khera Gujju, Suhron, Ajrawar, Chamaru, Manakpur and Jausla, and in British territory Kharar, Khanpur and Morinda . Morinda was the biggest chhat of Tawni Rajputs. According to the tradition of the tribe, their eponymous ancestor Raja Tan (aka. Rai Tan) was a grandson of Rawal Shalivahan Singh II, the King of Jaisalmer (1168–1200). [3] The said Raja Tan left Jaisalmer and came to Jalandhar, Punjab. Later, His descendent Raja Amba founded the city of Ambala and made it the capital of his kingdom. [4]

Muslim Rajputs or Musalman Rajpoots are the descendants of Rajputs in the northern regions of the Indian subcontinent who generally are followers of Islam. They converted from Hinduism to Islam from the medieval period onwards, creating various dynasties and states while retaining Hindu surnames such as Chauhan. Today, Muslim Rajputs can be found mostly in present-day Northern India and Pakistan. They are further divided into different clans.

Kalanaur is a tehsil in Gurdaspur District of Punjab state in India. It is located 25 km towards west from District headquarters Gurdaspur. This historical town is situated on newly constructed National Highway 354. The town has historical significance as Mughal Emperor Akbar, was enthroned in a garden near the Kalanaur by Bairam Khan. It was first established as a Principality by Prince Nakhashena, a brother of King Janamejaya, which was further ruled by his descendants known as Jarral Rajputs. Jarral rule in Kalanaur lasted for 350 Years.

Jaisal Singh Bhati (1113–1168) was the founder and first ruler of the Kingdom of Jaisalmer. Singh was a Rajput chief of the Bhati clan who lived during the 12th century. A direct descendant of Rao Bhatti, the 3rd-century Hindu monarch and the common ancestor of the Bhati Rajputs, Singh rose to power in 1143 by defeating his nephew, Rawal Bhojdeo of Lodhruva, in battle and seizing his nephew's position as Rawal. In 1156, Singh founded the city of Jaisalmer and became the Rawal of the Kingdom of Jaisalmer. Singh's descendants ruled Jaisalmer as Rawal, and later as Maharawal, until India's independence in 1947. Through his other descendants, Singh is the direct ancestor of the Phulkian Dynasty and other notable families and individuals.

Rao Bhatti, also known as Raja Bhatti, was an ancient Hindu monarch. Bhatti ruled during the 3rd century. He was the principal common ancestor of the Bhati/Bhatti Rajput clan present in modern-day Pakistan and India. Bhatti and his descendants claim direct descent from the Hindu mythological Yaduvanshi lineage of the Lunar dynasty. He is also the common ancestor of many notable individuals and families.

The Phulkian Dynasty of Maharajas or sardars were Sikh royals and aristocrats in the Punjab region of India. Members of the dynasty ruled the states of Badrukhan, Bhadaur, Faridkot, Jind, Malaudh, Nabha, and Patiala, allying themselves with the British Empire according to the terms of the Cis-Sutlej treaty of 1809. The dynasty is named after Phul Sidhu-Brar, the 17th-century common ancestor of the Phulkian states and the founder of the Phulkian Misl. Members of the Phulkian dynasty, who are the direct descendants of Rawal Jaisal Singh, the founder and ruler of the Kingdom of Jaisalmer, migrated to the present-day Malwa region in Punjab.

Rai Bhoe Bhatti, alternatively spelt as Rai Bhoi Bhatti, was a Muslim Rajput zamindar in medieval India. He was the founder of a rebuilt Nankana Sahib, formerly known as Rai-Bhoi-Di-Talwandi, a village in the province of Punjab. He was born a Hindu but embraced Islam later on in his life. He was the son of Rai Raaney Bhatti.

Kapurthala State, was a kingdom and later Princely state of the Punjab Province of India. Ruled by Ahluwalia Sikh rulers, spread across 510 square miles (1,300 km2). According to the 1901 census the state had a population of 314,341 and contained two towns and 167 villages. In 1930, Kapurthala became part of the Punjab States Agency and acceded to the Union of India in 1947.

The Waiha, sometimes pronounced Veha, are a Seraiki-speaking Rajput tribe, found in the province of Punjab. They trace their origin to Jaisalmer and according to tribal traditions that in the 4th century of the Hijra the Raja of that State gave Rurar, the modern Tajgarh, in dower to his daughter Huran, and that the place was named after her.

The Warya is a Rajput and Jat clan found predominantly in the Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan and in the state of Gujarat in India.
