Tapan Acharya (born 2 August 1981) is an Indian actor, writer, producer, and director known for his work in Marathi and Konkani films. He is best known for the Konkani movies Martin and Aleesha . [1] He also worked as a state youth icon for the Election Commission of India to increase voter awareness in Goa. [2] Acharya was elected as president of Goa Roll Ball Association in 2023. He also serves as a president of the Roll Ball Federation of India since November 2023.

Early life and education

Tapan Acharya was born in a Goud Saraswat Brahmin family in the village Loliem-Polem, Goa. He attended school in his village at Shri Damodar Vidhalaya, and attended higher education at Shri Damodar College of Commerce and Economics, Margao. While pursuing a degree in law from G.R Kare Law College he also completed a postgraduate diploma in management studies. He is credited with having knowledge in astrology, numerology, Vedas, and mythology. He holds various diplomas and certificates in gemology, astrology and Vedic studies. [3]

Career

Although early in life he wanted to be behind the camera, he was first thrust into the public eye as host of the TV show Chum Chum Chanana on Doordarshan Goa. He went on to star in his first film, Aleesha , in 2004, which was released at First IFFI in Goa. It was well received, winning the National Award for Best Feature Film in the Regional Category.

He has directed more than 100 short film, ad film's and documentaries for Election Commission,Goa Police and many other corporate entities

Acharya was appointed as a youth icon for the state of Goa by the Election Commission of India to increase awareness in voters. [4] [5] He serves as president of Goa Roll Ball Association since June 2023, and also president of Roll Ball Federation of India since November 2023.

Balakrishna Bhagwant Borkar commonly referred to as Bakibab Borkar, also known as Bā Bha Borkar, or Ba-ki-baab was an Indian poet. He started writing poems at an early age. The author Vi SA Khandekar was an early champion of Borkar's poetry. Borkar joined Goa's fight for freedom in the 1950s and moved to Pune, where he worked for the radio. Most of his literature is written in Marathi, though his Konkani output is also considerable. He excelled as a prose writer as well. His long poems Mahatmayan, an unfinished poem dedicated to Gandhi), and TamaHstotra are famous. One of his famous poems is "Mazha Gaav", meaning "My village". After Borkar's death, Pu La Deshpande and his wife Sunitabai performed public readings of Borkar's poetry.

Manohar Rai Sardesai was an Indian Konkani poet, writer and French translator. He received his Doctorat ès lettres françaises for his thesis "L'image de l'Inde en France" from the University of Sorbonne. He has been credited for an upsurge of modern Konkani poetry. Sardesai died in 2006.

Amizade (transl. Friendship) is a 2018 Indian Konkani-language action film written and directed by Aniket Arun Naik, and produced by Sachin Verlekar's Om Creative Film Works, in partnership with Bymistake Motion Pictures. It stars Konkani actors John D'Silva and Rajiv Hede and is the debut film of Siddhant Kanekar, Gaurav Pokle, Chetan Upadhay, Dhruv Sincro and Vaishnavi Pilankar. The film is about love and the journey of four good friends and their friendship. The film's trailer was launched at the Goa Marathi Film Festival in 2018, and its poster was released at the 48th International Film Festival of India by the then Chief Minister of Goa Manohar Parrikar. The film was released on 7 December 2018.

Dil Dosti Deewangi is a 2023 Indian Marathi-language romantic drama film directed by Shirish Rane, written by Deepak Tarkar and produced by Rajendra Rajan. The film starring Smita Gondkar, Chirag Patil, Veena Jagtap, and Kashyap Parulekar in leading roles. Vaman Balkrishna Naique Prataprao Sardesai was an Indian poet, freedom fighter and diplomat from Goa.
