The 1984 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XIV Olympic Winter Games and commonly known as Sarajevo '84, were a winter multi-sport event held between 8 and 19 February 1984 in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia. It was the first Winter Olympic Games held in a Slavic language-speaking country, as well as the only Winter Olympics held in a communist country before the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. It was the second consecutive Olympic Games held in a communist country, after the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union.

Taveuni is the third-largest island in Fiji, after Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, with a total land area of 434 square kilometres. The cigar-shaped island, a massive shield volcano which rises from the floor of the Pacific Ocean, is situated 6.5 kilometres east of Vanua Levu, across the Somosomo Strait. It belongs to the Vanua Levu Group of islands and is part of Fiji's Cakaudrove Province within the Northern Division.

Slovenia first participated as an independent nation at the Olympic Games at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville, France, and the country has sent athletes to compete at every Games since then. The Slovenian Olympic Committee was established in 1991 and was recognised by the International Olympic Committee on 5 February 1992.
Cape Verde competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Their participation marked their fourth Olympic appearance. Two Cape Verdeans competed in the Olympic games: Nelson Cruz participated as a marathon runner, and Wania Monteiro participated in gymnastics. Another athlete, Lenira Santos, was selected to compete in athletics but was forced to pull out due to injury. Monteiro was selected as the flag bearer for both the opening and closing ceremonies. Neither of the Cape Verdeans progressed beyond the first round.
Burundi participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics, held in Beijing, China from 8 to 24 August 2008. It was Burundi's fourth appearance in the summer Olympics since its debut in 1996. The Burundi team included three athletes: runners Joachim Nshimirimana and Francine Niyonizigiye, as well as swimmer Elsie Uwamahoro. Niyonizigiye, a marathon runner, was flag bearer for the opening ceremony. None of the Burundi athletes progressed further than the qualifying round.
Samoa competed at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester. It sent 34 male and three female competitors. athletics, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby sevens, shooting, weightlifting and wrestling. It won two silvers and a bronze, all in weightlifting, the nations best performance at the games.
The 1962 World Rowing Championships were the inaugural world championships in rowing. The competition was held in September 1962 on the Rotsee in Lucerne, Switzerland. Rowers from West Germany dominated the competition, winning five of the seven boat classes.
Ofisa Treviranus is a Samoan rugby union player. Treviranus played for Samoa's national sevens team and was part of the 12 men squad who won the IRB Sevens World Series in 2010.

Jiowana Sauto is a Fijian rugby sevens player. A dual international representing Fiji in both codes of Rugby Union and Rugby League and an Olympian named as a member of the Fijian women's national rugby sevens team representing Fiji at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil. Jiowana Sauto made history in the world of rugby by scoring the first official try for the Fijiana Drua Women's team during their inaugural game and year in Australia's prestigious Super W competition in 2022 against the Melbourne Rebels.
Ray Ofisa Treviranus, commonly known as Ray Ofisa, is a Samoan former professional rugby union player. He primarily played as a flanker Ofisa spent most of his professional career with Irish provincial side Connacht, earning over 100 caps for the team after joining from North Otago in the 2006–07 season. Ofisa also represented Samoa internationally, making one appearance for the national side against Tonga in 2011.
A men's Twenty20 cricket tournament at the 2019 Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa, was held from 8 to 13 July 2019 at the Faleata Oval Grounds. Following the International Cricket Council's decision to grant T20I status to all matches played between Associate Members after 1 January 2019, matches were eligible for Twenty20 International (T20I) status subject to both teams being members of the ICC and players passing eligibility criteria.
