Kallang is a planning area and residential town located in the Central Region of Singapore.
The 1996 AFF Championship, sponsored by Asia Pacific Breweries and officially known as the 1996 Tiger Cup, was the inaugural edition of the AFF Championship. It was hosted by Singapore from 1 to 15 September 1996 with all 10 nations of Southeast Asia taking part, four of which were invitees.
The 2015 Southeast Asian Games, officially known as the XXVIII Southeast Asian Games, or the 28th SEA Games, and commonly known as Singapore 2015, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held by the city-state of Singapore from 5 to 16 June 2015, It was the fourth time the country hosted the games. Singapore previously also hosted the games in 1973, 1983 and 1993 edition.

Built only a year earlier, the venue is hosting the Southeast Asian Games for the first time. It was used to host the second Southeast Asian Swimming Championships in 2014 as a test bed for the organisers, with the 2015 Southeast Asian Games volunteers hired to also volunteer in the 2014 Swimming Championships to help in the familiarisation of the new venue.
Athletics competitions at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games were held at the National Stadium, East Coast Park and Kallang Practice Track in Singapore from 6 to 12 June. A total of 46 athletics events are featured at the 28th SEA Games, divided evenly between the sexes. The marathon started and finished in the stadium and had a route in the surrounding area including the East Coast Park, Marina Bay and the Gardens by the Bay.
Water polo at the 2015 Southeast Asian Games was held from 10 to 16 June 2015 at the OCBC Aquatic Centre in Kallang, Singapore. The competition was held in a round-robin format, where the top 3 teams at the end of the competition will win the gold, silver, and bronze medal respectively.
