Terry McHugh (born 22 August 1963) is a retired Irish track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. His personal best of 82.75 m, set in 2000, is the Irish record. He won twenty-one consecutive Irish Championships from 1984 to 2004. [1]
During his career, McHugh finished tenth at the 1993 World Championships and seventh at the 1994 European Championships. He competed in four Summer Olympics – 1988 (22nd), 1992 (27th), 1996 (29th) and 2000 (20th).[ citation needed ]
McHugh also competed in two Winter Olympics – 1992 Albertville (32nd in Bobsleigh Men's Two) and 1998 Nagano (27th in Bobsleigh Men's Two & 30th in Bobsleigh Men's Four). [2]
He is the second Irish sportsperson, after sailor David Wilkins, to compete at five Olympics, and the first to compete at six.[ citation needed ]
McHugh has remained close friends with his bobsleigh teammate and former champion discus thrower Garry Power, who now teaches at a school in the UK. McHugh lives in Switzerland with his wife Daniela (former Swiss 400m runner) and son. He returned to Ireland in 2009 for the burial of Power's father, for whom he was a pall-bearer.[ citation needed ]

Stephen James Backley, OBE is a retired British track and field athlete who competed in the javelin throw. He formerly held the world record, and his 91.46-metre (300.1 ft) throw from 1992 is the British record. During his career, he was a firm fixture in the British national athletics team. He won four gold medals at the European Championships, three Commonwealth Games gold medals, two silvers and a bronze at the Olympic Games, and two silvers at the World Championships. Currently, he is an occasional commentator for athletics competitions, especially the field events.

While competing for Chaminade College Preparatory School he set the US high school record at four contested hammer weights - 11 lb, 12 lb, 13.2 lb and 16 lb. He also set the record in the Indoor Weight Throw at 93' 3¼". He set his personal best 78.12 m (256 ft 3 in) using the senior implement on his final throw while winning the 2019 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Jakub Vadlejch is a Czech track and field athlete who competes in the javelin throw. He is a three-time Olympian for the Czech Republic, having competed in 2012, 2016 and 2020, winning a silver medal in 2020. He also has represented his country six times at the World Championships in Athletics, winning the bronze medal in 2022 and 2023 and silver medal in 2017, and four times a competitor at the European Athletics Championships. He also won the 2016 IAAF Diamond League title.

The men's hammer throw was a competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The event was held at the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange between 17–19 August. There were 32 competitors from 24 nations. The event was won by Dilshod Nazarov of Tajikistan, the nation's first medal in the men's hammer throw and first gold medal in any Olympic event. Ivan Tsikhan of Belarus took silver, the 14th man to win multiple medals in the event in adding to his 2008 bronze. Bronze went to Wojciech Nowicki of Poland, the nation's first medal in the event since 2000.
Joseph Mathias Kovacs is an American track and field athlete who competes in the shot put and has a personal record of 23.23 meters outdoors and 22.05 meters indoors. He won gold medals at the 2015 and 2019 World Championships. He won silver medals at the 2017 World Championships, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. His personal best of 23.23 metres makes him the second best competitor all-time in the shot put event. Since college he was coached by Art Venegas, widely regarded as one of the best coaches in the world and the only coach to have athletes reach 73' with both the glide and rotational techniques in the shot put. Since 2019 he has been coached by his wife, Ashley Kovacs.
Rocco van Rooyen is a South African athlete specialising in the javelin throw. He competed at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing without qualifying for the final.
Ryan Crouser is an American shot putter and discus thrower. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and Olympic record holder. Crouser is the current world record holder in the shot put, both indoor and outdoor. On May 27, 2023, Crouser reset his outdoor world record with a throw of 23.56m bettering his previous world record by 7.48 inches/19 cm. In 2021, at the U.S. Olympic Trials he threw 23.37 m to break Randy Barnes's 31-year-old record of 23.12 m by almost 10 inches (25 cm). Crouser is also a two-time World Champion and the World Championship Record holder in the shot put 23.51m, just 2+1⁄2 in off his world record.
