At the 2020 U.S. Census the population was 196,543,up from 191,719 at the 2010 census,making it the fourth-largest city in Los Angeles County and the 24th-largest city in California. It is located about 10 miles (16 km) north of downtown Los Angeles.

Hollywood Burbank Airport,formerly called Bob Hope Airport after entertainer Bob Hope,is a public airport three miles (4.8 km) northwest of downtown Burbank,in Los Angeles County,California,United States. The airport serves Burbank,Hollywood,and the northern Greater Los Angeles area,which includes Glendale,Pasadena,the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley. It is closer to many popular attractions,including Griffith Park,Universal Studios Hollywood,and Downtown Los Angeles,than Los Angeles International Airport (LAX),and it is the only airport in the area with a direct rail connection to Downtown Los Angeles,with service from two stations:Burbank Airport–North and Burbank Airport–South. Nonstop flights mostly serve cities in the western United States,though JetBlue has daily flights to New York City. Southwest also occasionally flies non regular routes to the East Coast.

James Kenneth Hahn is an American lawyer and politician. A Democrat,Hahn was elected the 40th mayor of Los Angeles in 2001. He served until 2005,at which time he was defeated in his bid for re-election. Prior to his term as Mayor,Hahn served in several other capacities for the city of Los Angeles,including deputy city attorney (1975–1979),city controller (1981–1985) and city attorney (1985–2001). Hahn is the only individual in the city's history to have been elected to all three citywide offices. He is currently a sitting judge on the Los Angeles County Superior Court.

As a result,Los Angeles was the last major city in the United States to get a permanent rail system installed.
The Southern California Rapid Transit District was a public transportation agency established in 1964 to serve the Greater Los Angeles area. It was the successor to the original Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA). California State Senator Thomas M. Rees sponsored the bill that created the RTD,which was meant to correct some deficiencies of the LAMTA,and took over all of the bus service operated by MTA on November 5,1964. RTD was merged into the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in 1993.

Paul Krekorian is an American politician,currently serving as the 26th president of the Los Angeles City Council since October 18,2022. A member of the Democratic Party,he has represented the second district on the Los Angeles City Council since 2010. He was previously a member of the California State Assembly,representing the 43rd Assembly district. Krekorian is the first Armenian American to be elected to office in the city of Los Angeles.

William Fulton is an American author,urban planner,and politician. He served as mayor of Ventura,California,from 2009 to 2011,and later as the Planning Director for the City of San Diego. From 2014 to 2022,he was the head of the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University in Houston,Texas. He is considered an advocate of the "Smart Growth" movement in urban planning. In 2009,he was named to Planetizen's list of "Top 100 Urban Thinkers". He is the founder and publisher of the California Planning &Development Report.

James Thurman Butts Jr. is an American politician,currently serving as the mayor of Inglewood,California. He rose through the ranks of law enforcement in Inglewood during the 1970s and 1980s,eventually becoming a Deputy Chief. He then worked as the Chief of Police in Santa Monica,California from 1991 to 2006. Butts then took a public safety position with Los Angeles World Airports in 2006. He was elected mayor of Inglewood in 2010 and re-elected in 2014 with an 84% vote. He led efforts to renovate and reopen The Forum and develop a plan for SoFi Stadium and Intuit Dome in Hollywood Park.
The President of the Los Angeles City Council is the presiding officer of the Los Angeles City Council. The president presides as chair over meetings of the council and assignments to City Council committees and handles parliamentary duties like ruling motions in or out of order. The president automatically becomes an acting mayor when the mayor is out of state. Since 2020,the president has been elected at the first scheduled council meeting in January of even-numbered years.
