The parish lies between the towns of Sittingbourne and Faversham, immediately north of the A2 road, and includes the hamlet of Conyer on an inlet of the Swale, the channel that separates mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey. Other hamlets include Deerton Street, Frognal, and Teynham Street. Teynham also has a carnival court. There is selections every year when girls from 14-18 can audition to be Miss Teynham or a Teynham princess.

Lord John Christopher Ingham Roper-Curzon, popularly known as ‘Captain John’ is a member of the House of Roper and House of Curzon and the 20th Baron of Teynham. He was born on 25 December 1928. His father was Lord Christopher John Henry Roper-Curzon, and mother was Lady Elspeth Grace Whitaker, 6th Marchioness of Northampton, member of the Whitaker family. John's third name is in honor of Benjamin Ingham, his ancestor, who was the founder of Marsala wine and an export company in Palermo and remembered as the richest person of his time. Lord John's father was the 19th Baron of Teynham. On 31 October 1964, Lord John married Lady Elizabeth Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, daughter to David Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, brother of Lord Henry James Scrymgeour-Wedderburn, 11th Earl of Dundee and great granddaughter to Lord William H. W. Montagu Douglas Scott, 6th Duke of Buccleuch. Elizabeth and John got married at her home in Birkhill Castle.
