Pétanque is a sport that falls into the category of boules sports. In these sports, players or teams play their boules/balls towards a target ball. In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than the opponent after all boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a jack, or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The game is normally and best played on hard dirt or gravel. It can be played in public areas in parks or in dedicated facilities called boulodromes.

Rowing has been part of the Summer Olympics since its debut in the 1900 Games. Rowing was on the program at the 1896 Summer Olympics but was cancelled due to bad weather. European Pétanque Championships are organised by the European Pétanque Federation in collaboration with its member country federations. There are five main player groups for competitions: Youth, Up-and-coming, Women, Men, and Veteran. Competitors play a variety of games according to their age. The results of the Championships – excluding Veteran – determine the top 24 Nations to represent Europe at the FIPJP Pétanque World Championship.

The indoor rowing event at the World Games 2017 was held at the Multifunctional Hall in Jelcz-Laskowice, Poland. For the first time, indoor rowing was included in the World Games as an invitational sport.

Thailand competed in the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, United States from 7 to 17 July 2022. The games were originally scheduled for July 2021, but were postponed due to the rescheduling of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Athletes representing Thailand won four gold medals, three silver medals and two bronze medals. The country finished in 18th place in the medal table.

Ouk Sreymom is a Cambodian pétanque player.

Ke Leng is a retired Cambodian pétanque player. She won four consecutive Women's Pétanque World Championships in the precision shooting category. She is widely considered one of the greatest Cambodian pétanque players and Cambodian athletes.
