World Games Recurring international multi-sports event

The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee.

2009 World Games International sporting event in Kaohsiung, Taiwan

The 2009 World Games the eighth edition of the World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from 16 July 2009 to 26 July 2009. The games featured sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games.

International World Games Association

The International World Games Association, abbreviated as IWGA, is an international association, recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), that organises every four years, beginning in 1981, the multi-sport event called The World Games.

The World Confederation of Billiards Sports (WCBS) is the international umbrella organization encompassing the major cue sports, including carom billiards, pool games of several varieties, and snooker.

DanceSport at the 2001 World Games

The dancesport competitions at the 2001 World Games in Akita was played between 25 and 26 August. 94 dancers, from 26 nations, participated in the tournament. The dancesport competition took place at Akita City Gymnasium.

Casting Sport was part of all World Games until 2005 except in 1989. It was then dropped as the International World Games Association wants the International Casting Sport Federation to come up with new and improved event formats.

The bodybuilding events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung occurred between 18 and 19 July. 40 athletes from 17 nations participated in the tournament. The bodybuilding competition took place in Kaohsiung Cultural Center Jhihde Hall. The competition included both men's and women's events among seven different weight categories. It was conducted by the International Federation of BodyBuilding & Fitness.

The boules sports events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung was played between 20 and 22 July. 68 competitors, from 18 nations, participated in the tournament. The boules sports competition took place at 228 Memorial Park.

The water skiing events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung was played between 22 and 26 July. 81 athletes, from 29 nations, participated in the tournament. The water skiing competition took place at Lotus Pond.

2017 World Games International multi-sport event in Wroclaw, Poland

The 2017 World Games, commonly known as Wrocław 2017, was the tenth World Games, a major international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that were not contested in the Olympic Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. It was the first time The World Games was organised in Poland.

The World Games sports comprise all the sports contested in The World Games.

International Federation of Muaythai Associations

The International Federation of Muaythai Associations, or IFMA, called the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur until 27 July 2019, is the sole recognised sport governing body of amateur and professional Muay Thai and Muay boran consisting of 130 member countries worldwide with 5 continental federations after unification of International Federation of Muaythai Amateur and World Muaythai Council. IFMA is officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), the Association of IOC Recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF), the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) International World Games Association (IWGA), and Trim and Fitness International Sport for All Association (TAFISA). Muaythai has been included in many official sport programs such as the World Games, World Combat Games, Arafura Games, TAFISA Games, SEA Games, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, Asian Beach Games, Demonstration Sport in the Asian Games.

The bowling events at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung was played between 20 and 22 July. 46 competitors, from 23 nations, participated in the tournament. The bowling competition took place at Happy Bowling Alley.

Sofia Olofsson is a Swedish female professional kickboxer, Muay Thai fighter. On 25 November 2016, at the Rumble of the Kings 15: Awakening, in Stockholm, Sweden, she defeated Parita Nongprai Padpho on TKO for the World Muaythai Council bantam weight world title. On 25 November 2017, at the Rumble of the Kings 18: Uprising, in Gothenburg, Sweden, she successfully defended her world title against Iman Barlow.

Muaythai at the 2017 World Games

The muaythai tournaments at the 2017 World Games in Wrocław, Poland was held from 28 to 30 July 2017 at the Orbita Hall. It was the first time of muaythai including in the World Games. 87 Muay Thai practitioners from 37 NOCs were featured competing in eleven weight categories; four eight men, and three for women.

Sumo at the 2001 World Games

Sumo was one of the invitational sports at the 2001 World Games in Akita and was played between 25 and 26 August. 66 athletes, from 14 nations, participated in the tournament. The sumo competition took place at Tenno Town Gymnasium.

Sumo was one of the sports at the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung and was played between 17 and 18 July. 97 athletes, from 21 nations, participated in the tournament. The competition took place at Kaohsiung Senior High School Gymnasium.

The boules sports competition at the 2022 World Games took place in July 2022, in Birmingham in United States, at the University of Alabama Birmingham. Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the first time that only women's events were held as part of the boules sports programme at The World Games. It was also the first time since raffa's introduction at the 2009 World Games that it was not contested.

Muaythai at the World Games

Muaythai was featured in the World Games official programme for the first time at the 2017 World Games in Wrocław, Poland. It has been played at all editions since then. Muaythai was added to the World Games following the decision of the IWGA Annual General Meeting in May 2013.
