The muaythai [a] tournaments at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, United States were held from 15 to 17 July 2022 at the Boutwell Memorial Auditorium. [4] Originally scheduled to take place in 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [5] It was the second time of muaythai including in the World Games. [6]
The number of weight classes for men was reduced from 8 to 6, with the women's weight classes having a corresponding increase from 3 to 6. It was the first time that Muaythai event achieved full gender equality. [7]

A total of 96 athletes could qualify for muaythai at the 2022 World Games. Each National Olympic Committee could enter a maximum of 12 muaythai practitioners (one in each division). Host nation United States has reserved a spot in each of all 12 events. [8] [9]

The IBA Men's World Boxing Championships are biennial amateur boxing competitions organised by the International Boxing Association, which is the sport governing body. Alongside the Olympic boxing programme, they are the highest level of competition for the sport. The championships were first held for men in 1974. Since 1989 the men's championships are held every odd year.
USA Boxing is the national governing body for Olympic-style boxing. It is overseen by the United States Olympic Committee and World Boxing, which sets its rules.
The boxing tournaments at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 24 July to 8 August 2021 at the Ryōgoku Kokugikan. Thirteen events were staged, the same number as in London in 2012 and Rio de Janeiro in 2016. However, for the first time since the London Games, the programme has been updated, with the number of men's events reduced by two and the number of women's events increased by the same number.

Thailand competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the nation's official debut in 1952, Thai athletes have appeared in every edition of the Summer Olympic Games, with the exception of the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow, because of its support of the US-led boycott.

The muaythai tournaments at the 2023 European Games in Myślenice, Małopolska, Poland will be held from 25 to 28 June 2023 at the Myślenice Arena. Muaythai is one of ten new sports added to the European Games specifically for the 2023 edition.
The boxing competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris ran from 27 July to 10 August. Preliminary boxing matches occurred at Arena Paris Nord in Villepinte, with the medal rounds staged at the Stade Roland Garros.
