The Centre at Golden Ring, formerly the Golden Ring Mall is a power center and former mall in Rosedale, Maryland.
The mall was first announced by developers Melvin, Simon & Associates in April 1972, with Stewart's, Hecht's, and Montgomery Ward as anchors. Stewart's would operate a 3-level, 145,000 sq ft store to include a 15,000 sq ft budget shop, Montgomery Ward's would be 175,000 sq ft with a freestanding auto center, and Hecht's would be 150,000 sq ft, with 370,000 sq ft of space across two floors for smaller shops in the mall itself. [1] Montgomery Ward would open ahead of the mall on September 11, 1974, followed by Hecht's on October 1, 1974, and Stewart's on October 14, 1974. [2] [3] [4] The mall itself would open with a 2-week grand opening extravaganza beginning on October 28, 1974. [5] The mall also featured an installation from American sculptor Rita Blitt. [6]
The first major change came to the mall in November 1982, when all five Stewart's stores would close their doors, with Golden Ring's location one of four taken over by discount operator Caldor. [7] Simon would announce a major, $2 million renovation in 1986, which would add a new center court and second level food court, along with renovations to the entire mall interior. At this time, Herman Renfro, assistant vice president of development for Simon, remarked that the mall was "showing its age", and that "Without a major expansion, there's no way we can offer the selection of merchandise of a White Marsh or an Owings Mills. What we can do is create as pleasant a shopping area as possible". [8]
Caldor would close its location at Golden Ring in 1998, as one of two Baltimore area stores to close in an effort to emerge from bankruptcy. It was noted that Golden Ring was "already struggling with competition from White Marsh Mall and a renovated Eastpoint Mall", and that it was expected to take at least a year to fill the space vacated by Caldor. [9] Further decline is evident in that by 1999, a large portion of the parking lot was used for "Baltimore's Best Darn Yard Sale". [10]
The mall would be put up for sale by Simon in 1998, with Virginia developer Petrie, Dierman, and Kughn submitting plans for a new power center to replace the mall in early 2000. The plan would demolish the entire mall except for Wards, who intended to remain at the new center, and build a discount department store, a warehouse club, and a home-improvement store. [11] By October 2000, the mall was winding down operations, with a majority of tenants either closed, closing, or set to close by the end of the year. It was at this time that Hecht's spokeswoman Diane Daly would confirm that they were looking to sell the store, and would not remain for the new development. [12] Wards would also leave the development later that year, as they announced the closure of all remaining stores in December 2000. [13]
The property would reopen, as the Centre at Golden Ring, in 2002, with anchors Walmart, Sam's Club, and The Home Depot. [14] [15] [16] The former Wards building was later subdivided for multiple tenants.
Northgate Mall was a regional shopping mall located off Interstate 85 and Gregson Street in northern Durham, North Carolina, United States. The mall was in close proximity to Duke University and downtown Durham, between the Trinity Park and Walltown neighborhoods.
White Marsh Mall is a regional shopping mall in the unincorporated and planned community of White Marsh, Maryland. It is one of the largest regional malls in the Baltimore metropolitan area, with 6 anchor stores and 134 specialty shops in 1,200,000 square feet (110,000 m2). The mall is anchored by Macy's, Macy's Home Store, Boscov's, JCPenney and Dave & Buster's. White Marsh Mall is the fourth largest mall in the Baltimore area, behind Towson Town Center, Arundel Mills Mall and Annapolis Mall. It is adjacent to an IKEA store and The Avenue at White Marsh shopping center.
Annapolis Mall is a shopping mall in Parole, just east of the intersection of Interstate 97 and U.S. Route 50 and in close proximity to the mall's namesake of Annapolis, Maryland. Owned and managed by Centennial Real Estate Management, the mall features 1,416,744 sq ft of GLA, making it the second-largest shopping mall in Maryland after Arundel Mills. As of 2022, the mall features two traditional anchors Macy's and JCPenney, as well as an 11-screen AMC Theatres and prominent specialty retailers such as Forever 21, The Container Store and Crate & Barrel.
TownMall of Westminster, formerly Cranberry Mall, is a shopping mall located in Westminster, Maryland, United States on Maryland Route 140, 30 miles northwest of Baltimore. Owned by Westminster Mall LLC, and managed by The Woodmont Company. The mall features more than 20 stores, including a food court and Movie Theater. Belk, Boscov's, Dick's Sporting Goods, and RC Theaters are the mall's anchors. It's the only enclosed regional shopping center in Carroll County. The mall was wired for fiber internet in 2021.
The Mall in Columbia, also known as the Columbia Mall, is the central shopping mall for the planned community of Columbia, Maryland, United States. Security Square Mall is a mall in Woodlawn, Baltimore County, Maryland, a suburb of Baltimore, in the United States. The mall features over 100 stores and restaurants, as well as a food court. One section of the mall, Grand Village Plaza, previously included Korean shops and restaurants; however, most of these establishments had closed by 2010. Security Square Mall is located adjacent to the North American School of Trades. The anchor stores are Bayit Furniture, Set the Captives Free Outreach Center and Macy's. There are two vacant anchor stores that once housed Sears and Burlington.
Owings Mills Mall was a shopping mall in Owings Mills, Maryland, United States that hosted 155 stores and eateries, in the Baltimore County, Maryland, community of Owings Mills. It was owned and managed by General Growth Properties. While its main entrance was off Red Run Boulevard between Painters Mill Road and Owings Mills Boulevard, the mall was also accessible from the exit ramps of I-795. It was originally known as Owings Mills Town Center. The mall was completely demolished in 2017, and redeveloped in 2019 as Mill Station.

The Centre at Salisbury is the largest shopping mall on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

The Harford Mall is a shopping mall owned by CBL & Associates Properties that is located near the junction of Maryland Route 24 and U.S. Route 1, about 32 miles (51 km) north of Baltimore, in Bel Air, Maryland, United States. Its anchor is Macy's. It is the only shopping mall in Harford County, Maryland. The mall was built on the previous site of the Bel Air Racetrack.
Marley Station Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Opened in 1987, it was expanded in 1994 and 1996. The mall had 130 stores on 2 floors, a movie theater, and 5 anchor spaces. Towson Place, formerly Eudowood Plaza and Towson Marketplace, is an outdoor shopping center in Towson, Maryland. Opened in 1962, it was redeveloped extensively in 1998. The shopping center's major stores include Target, Walmart, Weis Markets, Marshalls, Burlington, Ollie's Bargain Outlet, PetSmart, Michaels, TJ Maxx, and Havertys. It is managed by Kimco Realty.
Bowie Town Center is an outdoor shopping mall located in Bowie, Maryland that opened in November 2001. The mall is located on Emerald Way near the interchange of US Route 301 and US Route 50. Bowie Town Center has 79 stores including Macy's, Safeway, and LA Fitness.
