Hunt Valley Towne Centre, formerly Hunt Valley Mall, is an outdoor shopping mall in northern Baltimore County, Maryland, with 58 stores. The development was constructed following the closure of Hunt Valley Mall (other than its anchor stores) in 2000. The new centre started operating in 2003. The anchor stores in existence today include Dick's Sporting Goods, Burlington Coat Factory and Wegmans. Wal-Mart was located at Hunt Valley mall until late October 2007, when it moved two miles south to Cockeysville, Maryland. It was replaced by Best Buy, which closed in May 2012 as part of a nationwide downsizing. Near a gazebo located in the main street area of the center, there is a memorial to Chuck Thompson. Hunt Valley's official mascot was Hunter the Valley Bear prior to redevelopment.
Hunt Valley Mall was planned as early as 1979, but its construction was opposed both by local residents, citing spreading suburbification and the potential for runoff into Loch Raven Reservoir, and by the Baltimore County government, who preferred that development be focused in Owings Mills and White Marsh. [1] Despite this, and the Baltimore County executive at the time, Donald Hutchinson, refusing to attend the opening ceremony, [2] the mall opened on September 17, 1981. [1] It was developed by Myles H. Tanenbaum and Kravco Company of King of Prussia, PA, and designed by Leonard Kagan of RTKL Associates. Some of Hunt Valley's "sister malls" were Valley Hills Mall, Beachwood Place, White Marsh Mall, Charleston Town Center and Stratford Square Mall, after which it was modeled. The mall had space for four anchor tenants, but Sears and Bamberger's, which became Macy's in 1986, were the only ones to open, leading the mall to a fate that paralleled Seaview Square Mall in Ocean Township, New Jersey. Other major department stores were in negotiations with the mall, such as Hutzler's, which was slated for the location across from the food court, and JCPenney. [3]
Hunt Valley Mall's non-anchor stores included Hair Cuttery, Chess King, CVS, Piercing Pagoda, Kay Bee Toys, Sun Coast Video, Listening Booth Music, Florsheim Shoes, Hess Woman's Apparel, Art Explosion, Merry Go Round, Hudson Trail Outfitters, Deb, Paul Harris, The Wild Pair, Sir Walter Raleigh Inn and others. There were two sets of escalators as well as a prominent glass elevator at the center of the mall surrounded by a fountain. Formerly the Hunt Valley mall, the space was re-established into what is current day Hunt Valley Town Centre. Small zigzag-shaped waterfalls were at opposite ends of the mall. When Macy's closed, the building was subdivided into Dick's Sporting Goods and Burlington Coat Factory on the upper and lower floors, respectively. The passenger elevator, freight elevator, and escalators inside the store space were removed prior to the stores moving in (one of the escalators was kept and reused). Once they did, the stairs at the rear mall entrance were replaced with escalators, which remained in place after redevelopment. Burlington takes up the entirety of the Macy's building's second floor.
Hunt Valley Mall never recovered from its inauspicious opening. [1] Its success over the following two decades was limited, and as a result, many of the merchants failed by the end of the 1990s. Competition from the new White Marsh Mall, as well as Golden Ring Mall, Owings Mills Mall, Towson Town Center and The Mall in Columbia did not help matters either. [4] This resulted in plans being made to convert the mall into an outdoor town center with big-box stores. WalMart opened during this period, taking up the second floor of the Macy's building next to Dick's. The mall finally closed in 2000, and demolition began to turn the former mall site into Hunt Valley Town Centre.

In October 2007, WalMart relocated two miles south to Cockeysville. The space was then occupied by Best Buy, but closed in May 2012. Bob's Discount Furniture then took over the space in 2015. All three of these spaces utilized one of the original escalators from Macy's, traveling in the down direction. It resides in the current Bob's south entrance.
On June 23, 2017, the original Sears store in the Hunt Valley Towne Centre, an original part of the Mall that was one of 235 properties Sears Holdings spun off into Seritage Growth Properties in 2015, [5] closed, as part of Sears' announcement of closing 20 stores across the United States. [6]
In 2018, Part of the first level of the former Sears became Michaels and HomeGoods. [7]
On December 7, 2020, it was announced that Ashley HomeStore will open a new location in the former Sears, expected to take up a sizable chunk of the second floor. [8]
On February 9, 2021, it was announced that OneLife Fitness would open a new 55,000 square-foot two story gym in the former Sears. Part of the new location will be built off of the existing Sears building. It will include a boutique studio for barre, spark and apex classes, a large cardio area, an indoor lap pool and a kid's club. [9]
A 310-unit apartment building is expected to break ground on one of the parking lots of the Sears building. [10]
In 1997, the Baltimore Light Rail was extended north from its then-terminus at Timonium station to Hunt Valley station in the parking lot of Hunt Valley Mall. There were hopes that this would increase business to the struggling mall. Increased lighting, security officers and off duty police were added to ward off any additional crime. [11]
Prior to the light rail's extension, the mall was served by Maryland Transit Administration Bus Route 9. Today, this route operates to the nearby International Circle.
Clackamas Town Center is a shopping mall established in 1981 in the Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area, located on unincorporated land in the Clackamas area of Clackamas County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. It is managed and co-owned by Brookfield Properties and is currently anchored by JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, Macy's and a separate Macy's Home/Backstage store. It also includes a 20-screen Century movie theater.
Southridge Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Milwaukee County suburbs of Greendale and Greenfield, Wisconsin. At 1,177,783 square feet it is Wisconsin's second largest mall behind Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, tied with Fox River Mall in Appleton. The mall's anchor stores are TJ Maxx, Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Macy's, JCPenney, and Round 1 Entertainment. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once Boston Store and Kohl's. Sears closed in September 2017, Kohl's relocated to a mixed use development on September 29, 2018, and Boston Store closed in Summer 2018 as parent company Bon-Ton went out of business. The former Sears was replaced by Dick's Sporting Goods, Golf Galaxy, Round 1 Entertainment, and TJ Maxx.
District 208, formerly Karcher Mall, is a shopping center located in Nampa, Idaho, United States. It originally opened as an enclosed shopping mall in August 1965 with Buttrey Food & Drug, Tempo, and Sprouse-Reitz as anchor stores. It was the largest shopping mall in the Treasure Valley until the opening of Boise Towne Square in Boise in October 1988. The shopping center is anchored by Big 5 Sporting Goods, Jo-Ann Fabrics and Crafts, Mor Furniture, and Ross.
Cumberland Mall is a shopping mall in the Cumberland district of Metropolitan Atlanta near the suburbs of Smyrna and Vinings. It was the largest shopping mall in Georgia when it opened on August 8, 1973. The mall features the traditional retailers Macy's, Dick's Sporting Goods, Costco, in addition to Planet Fitness, and Round 1 Entertainment.
Midland Commons is an outdoor power center in Warwick, Rhode Island. It previously existed as a two-story, enclosed shopping mall. The property opened as the Midland Mall in October 1967; for several years, it co-existed with the nearby Warwick Mall that opened in 1970. The mall was renamed the Rhode Island Mall in March 1985, and experienced rapid decline as tenants relocated to the Warwick Mall in the 1990s. It was considered a dead mall by the 2000s, and the interior of the mall was closed permanently in April 2011. The property was sold in 2012 and has been under redevelopment into its current configuration as a power center since 2016.
Fox Valley Mall, formerly Westfield Fox Valley, is a shopping mall in Aurora, Illinois. The mall's anchor stores are JCPenney and Macy's. Some larger non anchor stores include H&M and Forever 21. A Round One Entertainment is located in the former Sears wing. The Westfield Group acquired the shopping center in early 2002, and renamed it "Westfield Shoppingtown Fox Valley", dropping the "Shoppingtown" name in June 2005. Westfield Group sold 80% interest in mall as of December 2015.
Solano Town Center, formerly Westfield Solano and Solano Mall, and colloquially known as the Fairfield Mall, is a shopping mall in Fairfield, California, United States, with over 125 stores, multiple restaurants and dining options. The mall is located on Travis Boulevard, one block east of I-80 off the Travis Boulevard exit. Solano Town Center is owned by Starwood Retail Partners and is leased and managed by Spinoso Real Estate Group.

Promenade Temecula, formerly The Promenade in Temecula, is a shopping mall in Temecula, California. Opened in October 1999, its anchor tenants are J. C. Penney, Macy's which occupies two anchor spots: Macy's North and Macy's South, Round One Entertainment, Edwards Cinema, and Dick's Sporting Goods.
Valley Mall is a super-regional shopping mall serving Hagerstown, Western Maryland and nearby communities in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. Valley Mall is the only indoor mall in the Hagerstown Metropolitan Area since the other closed, Martinsburg Mall. Owings Mills Mall was a shopping mall in Owings Mills, Maryland, United States that hosted 155 stores and eateries, in the Baltimore County, Maryland, community of Owings Mills. It was owned and managed by General Growth Properties. While its main entrance was off Red Run Boulevard between Painters Mill Road and Owings Mills Boulevard, the mall was also accessible from the exit ramps of I-795. It was originally known as Owings Mills Town Center. The mall was completely demolished in 2017, and redeveloped in 2019 as Mill Station.
West Manchester Town Center is an open-air shopping center in West Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania, west of the city of York. It replaces the former West Manchester Mall, an enclosed, one-story shopping mall.
Florin Towne Centre is an outdoor shopping center in the unincorporated area of Parkway-South Sacramento in Sacramento County, California, United States, in the Sacramento area. It opened in 2008 on the site of the old Florin Mall, which closed and was demolished in 2006. The 484,500 square feet (45,010 m2) center is anchored by AutoZone, Chuze Fitness, PetSmart, US Foods CHEF'STORE, and Walmart Supercenter.
Francis Scott Key Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Frederick, Maryland, United States. Opened in 1978, it is anchored by JCPenney, Macy's, Value City Furniture, DSW, Ethan Allen, Barnes & Noble, and Dick's Sporting Goods. Previously, the mall housed a Sears department store that closed in 2023.
Bowie Town Center is an outdoor shopping mall located in Bowie, Maryland that opened in November 2001. The mall is located on Emerald Way near the interchange of US Route 301 and US Route 50. Bowie Town Center has 79 stores including Macy's, Safeway, Best Buy, and LA Fitness.
