A high-rise building is a tall building, as opposed to a low-rise building and is defined by its height differently in various jurisdictions. It is used as a residential, office building, or other functions including hotel, retail, or with multiple purposes combined. Residential high-rise buildings are also known as tower blocks and may be referred to as "MDUs", standing for "multi-dwelling unit". A very tall high-rise building is referred to as a skyscraper.
An apartment, flat or unit is a self-contained housing unit that occupies only part of a building, generally on a single storey. There are many names for these overall buildings, see below. The housing tenure of apartments also varies considerably, from large-scale public housing, to owner occupancy within what is legally a condominium, to tenants renting from a private landlord.

The Alexandra is a historic apartment building located on Gilbert Avenue in the Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio, United States. Constructed in 1904 as the neighborhood's first large apartment building, it was one of many such buildings constructed for the real estate management firm of Thomas J. Emery's Sons. It has been named a historic site.

8 Spruce Street, originally known as Beekman Tower and currently marketed as New York by Gehry, is a 76-story skyscraper designed by architect Frank Gehry in the New York City borough of Manhattan at 8 Spruce Street, between William and Nassau Streets, in Lower Manhattan, just south of City Hall Park and the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Pinnacle is a postmodern 2006 completed 181 foot 14 story condominium high-rise in downtown Cleveland's historic Warehouse District. The Pinnacle faces the off ramp of the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway or Ohio State Route (SR) 2. The building extends back for nearly a city block. It sits on top of a parking structure that was built before the tower. It is the second tallest building in the Warehouse District after the Crittenden Apartments.
The Winton Place is a 264-foot 1963 opened high-rise apartment complex in the second most populated suburb of Cleveland, Lakewood, Ohio's Gold Coast neighborhood, which is right on the border of the Cleveland, Ohio neighborhood known as Edgewater, Cleveland, Ohio. It was named after Alexander Winton who manufactured automobiles until in the 1900s and built a house for his family on the same land that the Winton occupies today. To this day, Winton is known as one of the most exclusive and one of the highest views in an apartment in Greater Cleveland. In fact, at the time of its completion in 1963, it was the tallest apartment building between New York City and Chicago. It was and still is considered one of the most expensive properties in Lakewood and Cleveland having cost $20 million at the time of construction.
The Parkview Apartments is a 1926-built 213 foot former Allerton Hotel high-rise that was converted into apartments in downtown Cleveland's Nine-Twelve District that sits just south of the Reserve Square complex. The building is in the Renaissance revival style and is facaded in detailed red brick. Erected in the 1920s the building demonstrates elaborate decorational motifs and castle-like design that evokes regal elegance throughout the structure.The Parkview also features a tower or spire at its apex.
Kimpton Schofield Hotel is an historic building located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The 172-foot, 14-story high-rise is located at the corner of East Ninth Street and Euclid Avenue in the city's Nine-Twelve District, alongside other historic buildings such as Rose Building, the City Club Building, the Union Commerce Building, the Cleveland Trust Company Building, The 9 Cleveland and The Cleveland Athletic Club Building.
Lakeview Terrace is a set of row houses, apartments, and a high-rise residential building in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. Established in 1935, the project culminated in the opening of a 1973 high-rise building called Lakeville Tower. The apartment tower is 208 feet tall and contains 19 stories. The complex is notable for being one of the first public housing projects in the country.
Kiara is a residential skyscraper in Seattle, Washington. It was completed in 2018, the 40-story, 435-foot-tall (133 m) tower has 465 apartments. It is first skyscraper in the South Lake Union neighborhood as well as its tallest structure and one of the few highrise buildings outside of Downtown Seattle. The building is located at the intersection of Denny Way and Terry Avenue, near the headquarters of The Seattle Times and the Cornish College of the Arts.
The Beacon is a skyscraper in downtown Cleveland that began construction at 515 Euclid Avenue in late 2017. The tower will be 355 feet (108 m) tall, with approval from the city council to exceed the city's 250 feet (76 m) limit. The building will be located on the GCRTA Euclid Corridor Rapid Bus Transit line that leads from Public Square to the University Circle district on the south east side of the city
