The Headbangers Ball is the fourth extended play by American electronic music duo Slander. Canadian independent electronic label Monstercat released the EP on November 29, 2018. The extended play was released with three singles, a North American tour and later gathered generally positive reviews.
The initial concept of TheHeadbangers Ball came to be during Slander's residency in Las Vegas, thinking of it as a "mansion party set in the Great Gatsby era but with undead skeletons as our attendees." In an interview with Billboard Dance , the duo spoke about the concept and influences about the extended play, stating:
"We aimed to create three solid vocal dubstep songs, essentially mimicking the vibe we conceptualised for the tour. The emotional vocals represent the more upscale elements of the Ball, and the dubstep drops represent the more dark, grungy appearance of the attendees. To us, The Headbangers Ball also represents a new evolution of the SLANDER sound into a more heavy bass arena that still sends backtraces to our original melodic sound via the vocals we chose."

To promote the release of The Headbangers Ball, the extended play's three songs were released as singles. Its lead single, "You Don't Even Know Me" was released on September 20, 2018, [2] "Running To You" on November 15, 2018, [3] and "Hate Being Alone" on November 29, 2018. [4] On November 29, 2018, the extended play was released exclusively as a digital download on international digital stores through Monstercat. [5] Following the extended play's release, Slander began their The Headbangers Ball North American tour on January 11, 2019, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. [6]
The Headbangers Ball was well received by most critics. Writing for Billboard, Koury Angelo compared the extended play to the MTV show of the same name, writing that the "DJs are the rock stars, and Los Angeles-based duo SLANDER[ sic ] brings all those elements into a fresh and frenzied sound all its own". [1] Writing for Dancing Astronaut , Chris Stack described the songs of the extended play as having a stark contrast with each other, writing that "each track places fluffy vocals and lush melodies at the helm of harder-hitting electronic elements, from dubstep and future bass." [7] Noiseporn's Ria Qi described the three songs as each featuring unique elements, highlighting the "soothing melody and enthralling vocal in "You Don’t Even Know Me," the piercing, frenzied rhythm in "Running To You" and the heartfelt lyrics and heavy percussion in "Hate Being Alone."" Luke Shipstad, better known by his stage name Kuuro, is an American DJ and electronic music producer. The Kuuro project was formerly a production duo that also included Dutch producer Jordin Post. They revealed themselves as the producers behind the name in May 2017 during an episode of Monstercat's Call of the Wild radio program.
James Leusink, better known by his alias Ephixa, is a Canadian electronic music producer who lives in Ontario, Canada. He is best known for his viral "Charlie Sheen Bi-Winning" dubstep remix, remixes of music from the Legend of Zelda franchise as well as various other remixes and original electronic music. Leusink peaked at #11 on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart in November 2011. Ephixa is also known for the first ever single released by Canadian record label Monstercat, "Dubstep Killed Rock 'n' Roll".
Slander is an American DJ duo consisting of Derek Andersen and Scott Land based in Los Angeles, California. They are best known for their unique sound and subgenre "heaven trap". They attribute most of their success to their close friend Nathaniel Bates, who they say “single handedly gave them the inspiration and confidence to become full time DJ’s”.

He is known for the songs "Island" and "Another Me", with the prior being a collaboration with American dubstep producers Seven Lions and Trivecta and the latter being a collaboration with Seven Lions and Canadian producer and DJ Excision. "Island" peaked at the No. 20 position on Billboard's Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart in early 2019. Au5's music encompasses a range of electronic genres such as dubstep, house, trance, drum and bass, drumstep and ambient, and he is known for fusing the characteristics of trance and dubstep in his music. Au5 is best known for his releases on Canadian label Monstercat, some of which have received millions of views on YouTube.
We Are Fury is a Canadian DJ and music production duo consisting of Joachim Speidel and Stuart Brookes. Taking inspiration from the feeling their music gave them for their stage name, they are known for their remixes, singles, extended plays (EP), and debut album Duality. We Are Fury's music is primarily electronic dance music (EDM) and contains elements of subgenres such as melodic trap, future bass, midtempo, and melodic dubstep.
