The McCrary Sisters are an American gospel music quartet from Nashville, Tennessee, formed in 2010 by sisters Ann McCrary, Deborah McCrary, Regina McCrary, and Alfreda McCrary. They have released four studio albums and one live album: Our Journey (2010), All the Way (2013), Let's Go (2015), Live (2017) and A Very McCrary Christmas (2019).

Background

The McCrary Sisters are the daughters of a former Baptist preacher, Reverend Samuel H. "Sam" McCrary (1913-1991), who was a founding member of The Fairfield Four. [1] [2] The four members are Ann McCrary, Deborah McCrary, Regina McCrary, and Alfreda McCrary. Ann McCrary is a former session musician for many gospel music artists, and Regina toured with Bob Dylan from 1979 until 1985; Ann and Regina were also members of The Baptist, Catholic and Methodist Choir. Alfreda is married to Reverend Narcisco Lee, pastor of Old Happy Day Church, while Deborah was employed as a nurse. [3] [4] [5] [6]

Music history

Their first recording, Our Journey, was released on October 26, 2010, from McC Records. [7] [8] Their subsequent studio album, All the Way, was released on March 25, 2013, through McC Records. [6] They released Let's Go, on March 9, 2015, with McC Records. [9] [10] The group are part of the "house band" at the Americana Music Honors & Awards and provided backing vocals for the song "Choctaw County Affair" on Carrie Underwood's 2015 album, Storyteller , "Do Right By Me" on Margo Price's 2017 album All American Made and "All of the Women" on Allison Russell's 2021 album, Outside Child .

On June 1, 2022, it was announced that Deborah had died. [11] In August 2022, they released the single “Shake It Off” which includes vocals by Deborah. [12]

Andraé Edward Crouch was an American gospel singer, songwriter, arranger, record producer and pastor. Referred to as "the father of modern gospel music" by contemporary Christian and gospel music professionals, Crouch was known for his compositions "The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power", "My Tribute " and "Soon and Very Soon". He collaborated on some of his recordings with famous and popular artists such as Stevie Wonder, El DeBarge, Philip Bailey, Chaka Khan, and Sheila E., as well as the vocal group Take 6, and many popular artists covered his material, including Bob Dylan, Barbara Mandrell, Paul Simon, Elvis Presley and Little Richard. In the 1980s and 1990s, he was known as the "go-to" producer for superstars who sought a gospel choir sound in their recordings; he appeared on a number of recordings, including Michael Jackson's "Man In the Mirror", Madonna's "Like a Prayer", and "The Power", a duet between Elton John and Little Richard. Crouch was noted for his talent of incorporating contemporary secular music styles into the gospel music he grew up with. His efforts in this area helped pave the way for early American contemporary Christian music during the 1960s and 1970s.

The Fairfield Four is an American gospel group that has existed for over 100 years, starting as a trio in the Fairfield Baptist Church, Nashville, Tennessee, in 1921. They were designated as National Heritage Fellows in 1989 by the National Endowment for the Arts, which is the United States government's highest honor in the folk and traditional arts. The group won the 1998 Grammy for Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album. As a quintet, they featured briefly in the 2000 movie O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

Locked Down is a studio album by American singer-songwriter Dr. John. It was released on April 3, 2012 through Nonesuch Records. Recording sessions took place in 2011 at Easy Eye Sound in Nashville. Production was handled by Dan Auerbach. It features contributions from Dan Auerbach, Max Weissenfeldt, Leon Michels, Nick Movshon, Brian Olive and The McCrary Sisters. At the 55th Annual Grammy Awards held in 2013, the album won a Grammy Award for Best Blues Album.

He has released ten albums, over the course of 21 years, with Sparrow Records, JDI Records, and IR Records. Seven albums have charted on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.

Bishop Leonard Stephen Scott is an American gospel musician and pastor of Rock Community Church. He started his music career, in 1989, with Tyscot Records releasing Holy, and they have released all of his albums. Scott has released eleven albums with three of those charting on the Billboard magazine Gospel Albums chart.

Minister Cedric LeVance Ford is an American gospel musician and leader of Worship Unlimited, currently based out of Houston, Texas because he is the music minister at Reflections of Christ Church. His first album, Featuring Visions: A Choral Ministry, was released by Muscle Shoals Records in 2000, and produced by Dorothy Norwood. He released, Created 2 Worship, with Tyscot Records in 2009, and this was a Billboard magazine breakthrough release upon the Gospel Albums chart at number 34. He was nominated for a NAACP Theatre Award for his role in The Fabric of a Man by David E. Talbert.

Roy Keith Pringle is an American gospel musician and organist, who is the founder of Pentecostal Community Choir. His first album, "Let Everything That Has Breath Praise the Lord", was released in 1979. He went on to release more albums with Savoy Records, Hopesong Records, Heartwarming Records, Muscle Shoals Records, Malaco Records, and Platinum Entertainment. Five of these albums would chart on the Billboard Gospel Albums chart. He received a Grammy Award-nomination for the song "Call Him Up" that was on the 1980 album "True Victory".

Kelli Evon Williams-Malcolm is an American gospel musician. Her first album, Kelli Williams, was released by Sony Music Entertainment in 1995. The subsequent album, I Get Lifted, was released in 1998 by Word Records in association with Epic Records, and this was a Billboard magazine breakthrough release upon the Gospel Albums chart. She released, In the Myx, with the Word Records in tandem with Epic Records in 2000.

Kedrah Niyoki White, who goes by Niyoki Chapman and the stage name Niyoki, is an American gospel musician. Her first album, My Everything, was released by Executive Music Group alongside Dedicated 2 God Records in 2006. This album was a Billboard magazine breakthrough release upon the Gospel Albums chart. The subsequent album, Rest, was released in 2008 by those same two labels, and it charted on the aforementioned chart. She was a part of the girl group, Milenia, that got the chance to tour with Prince on the Hit n Run Tour in 2000 and 2001 before releasing their only album in 2006.
