The Mummy: Dark Universe Stories is a supernatural episodic point-and-click visual novel video game developed by Night School Studio and is based on the 2017 film The Mummy . [3] It takes place after the events of the film, following former thief Nick Morton (without the likeness of Tom Cruise from the film) as he seeks to free himself from the influence of Set. Set across 36 chapters, the game retroactively establishes The Mummy films of the 1930s–1950s as a part of the canonical chronology of the Dark Universe, with Nick encountering Kharis (with the likeness of Tom Tyler) and Dr. Charles Petrie (with the likeness of Charles Trowbridge). The game was released to iOS and Android on June 16, 2017. [4]
The game received a positive critical reception.
The Mummy: Dark Universe Stories is a point-and-click visual novel-style game where players choose from multiple narrative options in an immersive tale, filled with dynamic comic-style illustrations, set in the immediate aftermath of the 2017 film The Mummy . [5] [6] Upon dying, the game resets the player to the beginning of the chapter, providing them alternate narrative choices and endings. [5]
The player's character is Nick Morton, a former thief and soldier bound to the Egyptian god Set, on the run from Prodigium following the defeat of Princess Ahmanet, as he and his best friend Vail seek out the Book of Set in an attempt to free himself of his curse, before encountering another mummy in Kharis. There are multiple endings in this game, each of which are determined by the player's choices and actions as the game proceeds.
In terms of the visual novel genre, Gamezebo noted that it also seemingly takes influence from Night School Studio's previous games Fighting Fantasy and Mr. Robot:1.51exfiltrati0n.apk . [5]
