The Scarlet Opera, originally formed as Perta, is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. Its members include Luka Bazulka (Lead Vocalist), Colin Kendrick (Pianist), Daniel Zuker (Bassist), Justin Siegal (Drummer), and Chance Taylor (Guitarist). [1]
In 2016, Colin Kendrick met fellow CalArts alum Luka (né Matthew) Bazulka at a warehouse party in Los Angeles. After hearing the vocalist perform a solo set, Kendrick decided to form a band around Bazulka's story and voice. [2] He brought along longtime friends Daniel Zuker, Justin Siegal, and Chance Taylor to round out their newly formed music group. [3] [4] Soon they became inseparable, taking camping trips and working on music in Kendrick's childhood bedroom in Calabasas. The band later moved to Sherman Oaks and began using Kendrick's kitchen as their new performance space. [2] The band's sound drew from the bandmate's theatrical backgrounds, innate musical proficiency, and a variety of influences which range from rock bands such as Guns N' Roses to funk-pop artists such as Prince. The group formed under the name "Perta" which derived from one of Bazulka's favorite plays, Birdy—based on William Wharton's novel and adapted by Naomi Wallace—in which the main character befriends a bird named Perta. He stated one of the play's lines resonated with him in which Perta tells the protagonist to "forget this nonsense about 'being a boy.'" As Bazulka felt he has always blurred the line between masculine and feminine, the play, and thus the band's name, reminded him "of being that boy and giving [himself] that advice of choosing to exist in happiness." [4]
In 2018, under representation by WME, the band released their single "From Fire" and caught the attention of Paper magazine and Alec Baldwin, who interviewed Bazulka and Kendrick on his podcast Here's the Thing .
After a brief hiatus, the band reinvented itself in 2022 as "The Scarlet Opera." The name derives itself from Nathaniel Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter . According to the band, it stands for the misunderstood and the misrepresented. "The music, the shows, the glamour are all devoted to the outcasts, to the sexually liberated, to those who don’t come from wealth, to those who are divine." [1]
The band signed with Republic Records and released their first single, "The Place to Be," on September 16, 2022. On January 20, 2023, The Scarlet Opera released their second single, "Big City Thing." [5] They then made their television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden in March 2023, performing their song "Alive." Shortly after, the band released their first EP, Comedy. [1] [6]
Paul Stanley is an American musician who was the co-founder, frontman, rhythm guitarist and co-lead vocalist of the hard rock band Kiss from the band's inception in 1973 to their retirement in 2023. He was the writer or co-writer of many of the band's most popular songs. Stanley established The Starchild character for his Kiss persona. Stanley was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014 as a member of Kiss.
Faith No More is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1979. Before September 1983, the band performed under the names Sharp Young Men and later Faith No Man. Bassist Billy Gould, keyboardist/rhythm guitarist Roddy Bottum and drummer Mike Bordin are the longest-remaining members of the band, having been involved since its inception. The band underwent several early lineup changes, and some major changes later. The lineup of Faith No More consists of Gould, Bordin, Bottum, lead guitarist Jon Hudson, and vocalist/lyricist Mike Patton.

The Word Alive is an American metalcore band formed in Phoenix, Arizona, in 2008. The band was signed to Fearless Records since their formation. In 2022, they changed their label and signed to Thriller Records. The band currently consists of vocalist Tyler Smith, guitarists Zack Hansen and Jose DelRio, and drummer Daniel Nelson. The group has had several line-up changes throughout their career, with Hansen as the only remaining founding member. Their second EP, Empire reached No. 15 on the Top Heatseekers, meeting a great amount of positive acclaim upon its release in 2009. The following year, the group recorded and released their debut studio album, Deceiver on August 31, 2010, which reached No. 97 on the Billboard 200 and 15 on Independent Albums.
Life Cycles is the second studio album by American metalcore band The Word Alive. The album was released on July 3, 2012, through Fearless Records and was produced by Joey Sturgis. The album features a heavier and more "metal-headed" sound as stated by lead vocalist Tyler Smith. Life Cycles is the first release by the band to be without keyboardist, Dusty Riach, who parted ways with the band at the beginning of 2012.
Through Fire is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska, founded in 2015 by songwriter, guitarist and producer Justin McCain and currently consists of vocalist Grant Joshua Kendrick, twins Tyler and Zach Halverson on guitar and drums respectively, and Kyle LeBlanc on bass. They signed a deal with Sumerian Records and released their debut record in 2016. Their debut single "Stronger" reached number 29 on the mainstream rock chart.
Scarlet White was an American rock band formed in Three Rivers, Michigan, United States, in 2008, by guitarist, Dan Hall. Hall was in several bands prior to Scarlet White, getting his passion for music after attending a Creed concert. After many line up attempts, Scarlet White consists of Dan Hall, Spencer Minor, and Erica Wallen. Scarlet White has released two studio albums, Scarlet White and The Inbetween. The Inbetween was recorded at GCR Audio Recording Studios in Buffalo, New York, owned by Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls. The band released their third and final studio album in November 2017 titled The Other Side. The Other Side was also recorded at GCR Audio.
Emphatic was an American hard rock band from Omaha, founded by guitarist-songwriter Justin McCain in 2004. Their major label debut record Damage for Atlantic reached No. 9 on Billboard Top Heatseekers chart in 2011. The band's second album Another Life climbed to No. 8 on Top Heatseekers chart in 2013. Justin McCain announced changing the band's name and continuing as Through Fire in December 2015.
