#1's is Mariah Carey's sixth VHS/DVD release. A collection of the music videos of her U.S. number-one singles up to that time, the home video was originally released on VHS in December 7, 1999, while the DVD was released on February 1, 2000. A year before this, Carey had released a greatest hits compilation, #1's, which included her thirteen U.S. number-one singles up to that point. The DVD of the same name is based on that album, but by the time of its release, Carey had already scored a fourteenth U.S. number one, "Heartbreaker", from her latest studio release Rainbow. Its music video and the video of its remix were thus included on the DVD. During the month of the DVD's release, Carey had also earned her fifteenth number one single, "Thank God I Found You".

Cher started working on the album in the spring of 1998 with English producers Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling at the Dreamhouse Studios in London. The album was dedicated to her former husband Sonny Bono, who had died earlier that year.
Love Hurts is the twentieth studio album by American singer and actress Cher, released on June 13, 1991 by Geffen Records. The album was her final studio album with the record company after a 4-year recording contract. The RIAA certified it Gold on August 27, 1991. The lead single from the album was, "Love and Understanding" and the follow-up singles were "Save Up All Your Tears", "Love Hurts", "Could've Been You" and "When Lovers Become Strangers". It peaked at number 48 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart with the sales of 19,000 copies. In November 2011, Billboard stated that Love Hurts had sold 600,000 copies in the US.

It was released as the third international single from Believe in the summer of 1999, by WEA and Warner Bros. Records. After "Strong Enough" didn't do well on the US Billboard Hot 100, "All or Nothing" was released and cracked the Top 40 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart at number 38. It peaked at number-one on the Dance/Club Play Songs chart. In Europe, the single was a Top 10 hit in Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary and Scotland, and a Top 20 hit in Denmark and United Kingdom.

It was written by Mark Taylor and Paul Barry, and produced by Taylor and Brian Rawling, and released as the fourth single from the album on July 6, 1999, by Warner Bros. Records, and WEA. The song is a Latin-influenced track with Spanish guitar over dance beats. In the song, Cher mixes English with Italian lyrics as she sings: "Dov'è l'amore /dov'è l'amore /I cannot tell you of my love/ here is my story".
"If I Could Turn Back Time" is a song recorded by American singer and actress Cher for her nineteenth studio album Heart of Stone (1989). It was released on July 1, 1989, by Geffen Records as the album's lead single. The song was written especially for Cher by Diane Warren, who produced it with Guy Roche. Cher initially disliked the track after listening to a demo tape sung by Warren, but subsequently changed her opinion after Warren convinced her to record it.

"Song for the Lonely" is a dance-pop song which was initially written as a love song, but after the September 11 attacks, Cher eventually saw it in a different way.
"It's in His Kiss" is a song written and composed by Rudy Clark. It was first released as a single in 1963 by Merry Clayton that did not chart. The song was made a hit a year later when recorded by Betty Everett, who hit No. 1 on the Cashbox magazine R&B charts with it in 1964. Recorded by dozens of artists and groups around the world in the decades since, the song became an international hit once again when remade by Cher in 1990.
"We All Sleep Alone" is the second official single from Cher's self-titled eighteenth album Cher, released on January 28, 1988 by Geffen Records. The single was also released on VHS containing the music video, as directed by Cher.
