Selvaraj Thirumal Valavan (born 27 November 1970 in Madras, Tamil Nadu) is a former field hockey midfielder from India, who made his international debut for the Men's National Team in February 1997 against Poland. Valavan represented his native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, where India finished in seventh place. He comes from a hockey family and is the nephew of Former International M.P.Murugesh. His father Selvaraj played for State Bank of India and brother Thirugnam currently plays for Madras Port Trust. Selvaraj Thirumala Valavan currently plays for Indian Bank Team, Tamil Nadu in the position of Centre-Half. For his outstanding contribution to the field of Hockey, he was conferred the award Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Sports Award in the year of 1999–2000. In the national level he has played the tournaments National Championship respectively in December 2000 held at Jammu, March 1999 held at Hyderabad where the team finished at the 2nd position, May 1997 held at Bangalore and finished at 2nd position. He also participated in the year December 2002 – Hyderabad, June 1997 – Bangalore. Selvaraj Thirumala Valavan also took part at the Muruguppa Gold Cup in the year July 1998 – Chennai (lost in semi-final).
He has never played for any foreign clubs like other professional field hockey player. Selvaraj Thirumala Valavan has played 172 matches in the international arena with debut in the year 1997 against Poland. The tournament was held at Chennai and in that India won by 2–0–1. Bindi Singh Kullar is a Canadian field hockey player, who played his first international senior tournament for the Men's National Team in 1996. His father, Pritpal Singh Kullar who hailed from Sansarpur village in Punjab, was also a field hockey player and went on to represent Canada in 1978.
Michael Mahood is a retired field hockey goalkeeper from Canada, who earned his first international senior cap for the Men's National Team in 1995 against India in Italy. He went on to appear in 196 international matches including two Olympic Games and the 1998 World Cup in Utrecht, Holland. In 1999 he was named to the World XI as part of the FIH 75th Anniversary celebrations in Alexandria, Egypt.

Björn Emmerling is a field hockey player from Germany, who played for Harvestehuder THC and Hanauer THC in his native country. The defender made his international senior debut for the German team in 1996, and competed at three Summer Olympics. He retired from international play after the 11th World Cup, in Germany in September 2006 with 256 caps and 58 goals. In 2007, he received the town of Mönchengladbach "Sportler des Jahres" award.
Michael Green is a former field hockey player from Germany. He began his career at MTV Braunschweig and Braunschweiger THC and later played for Harvestehuder THC in Hamburg. The defender competed at two Summer Olympics. Green is working as a surgeon, and played more than 260 international matches for the German field hockey squad.
Sohail Abbas, is a former professional field hockey player from Pakistan who played as a Full-back. Regarded as one of the greatest players of all time he is the all-time second highest goal scorer in international field hockey and highest goal scorer in modern field hockey with 348 international goals. A drag-flick specialist noted for his lethal flicks with great accuracy and speed in front of goal from penalty corners he is widely regarded as the 'King of the drag flick'.
Brent James Livermore OAM is a field hockey midfielder from Australia. He was first selected in the Australian team in 1997, and was awarded the Kookaburras player of the year award in 2001. He was also nominated of the FIH Player of the Year awards in 2002 and 2005. He has played over 300 matches for the Australian team, and has scored 30 international goals. He plays for the NSW Waratahs in the Australian Hockey League.

Gregg Clark is a field hockey player from South Africa, who was a member of the national squad that finished tenth at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. He was also present at the Atlanta Games in 1996. The midfielder played for Durban, and a provincial team called KwaZulu Natal Raiders. He is also the most capped South African national hockey player with 250 caps and 42 goals.
Matthias Witthaus is a field hockey player from Germany, who was a member of the Men's National Team that won the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and the gold medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and again at the 2012 Summer Olympics. He played a total of 335 caps for the national team from 1999 until 2012, with 335 caps he is the most capped German player of all time.
Christoph Bechmann is a field hockey player from Germany, who was a member of the Men's National Team that won the bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
Jude Menezes is a former Indian field hockey coach and former goalkeeper, who is currently the head coach of the Japan women's team. He also served as the goalkeeping coach of the Blacks Sticks Women's Team and the head coach of Auckland Women's Hockey Team. Jude represented India at 133 international matches, prominent among them the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, 1998 Hockey World Cup at Utrecht, Holland and 2002 World Cup at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He moved to New Zealand in 2002 and is coaching field hockey teams at the highest level.
Jugraj Singh is a former Indian field hockey player whose playing career was cut short by a 2003 car accident. Born in 1983 to a Sikh family in Punjab, the former Punjab policeman was a self-coached, drag-flicker defender who later became a coach. A product of the Surjeet Singh Hockey Academy in Jalandhar and the Air India Hockey Academy in Delhi, Singh played left fullback for the Punjab Police team in Jalandhar; he made his international debut in the 2001 under-18 Asia Cup in Ipoh. Singh was not the only field-hockey player in his family; his aunt Rajbeer Kaur Rai is a former India captain and recipient of the Arjuna Award, and his brother-in-law Gurmail Singh played on the 1980 Olympic team. Singh played a pivotal role in taking Indian field hockey to a higher level by winning the Junior World Cup, the 2003 Indo-Pak Champions Trophy and the Asian Championship. He was considered to be the next Sohail Abbas by many experts; in a series against Pakistan, he performed so well that Abbas said he could see a younger version of himself in Singh.
Mirnawan Nawawi is a former field hockey player from Malacca, Malaysia. He went to the Royal Military College, Kuala Lumpur during his high school years. Mirnawan was the skipper for the Malaysia national team from 1998 until 2002. He was known as 'The Boss' during his playing days and has scored 250 career goals.
