Thomas Mardal (born 16 April 1997) is a Norwegian hammer thrower.
Whilst attending the University of Florida he became NCAA champion in the weight throw. [1] He broke the Norwegian national record in the weight throw in February 2021, achieving a distance of 24.16 metres. [2] He also became 2021 NCAA champion in the hammer throw. [3] That year, he improved his personal best in the hammer throw to improved his lifetime best in the hammer to 76.18m whilst competing in Kingston, Jamaica. [4]
He competed at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon in the men's hammer throw. [5]
He competed at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest in the hammer throw. [6] [7]
He competed in the 2024 European Championships in Rome in the hammer throw. [8] [9] He competed in the hammer throw at the 2024 Paris Olympics, placing eleventh overall. [10] [11]
He is the son of the former long jumper Ole Morten Mardal.
The hammer throw is one of the four throwing events in regular outdoor track and field competitions, along with the discus throw, shot put and javelin.
Kerron Stephon Clement is a Trinidadian-born American track and field athlete who competes in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter sprint. He held the indoor world record in the 400-meter sprint, having broken Michael Johnson's mark in 2005.
Marco Lingua is an Italian hammer thrower, writer, actor, TV personality and former weightlifter. He finished eleventh at the 2006 European Championships. Samuel Harrison Mattis is an American Olympic track and field athlete who competes in the discus throw, and has a personal record of 68.69 meters. At the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, he came in 11th. Mattis represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Men's discus throw in Paris.
Rudy Winkler is an American male track and field athlete who competes in the hammer throw. He is the NACAC area record holder and American record holder with a throw of 82.71 m (271 ft 4 in) for the hammer and holds a personal best of 23.32 m for the weight throw. He was the hammer national champion in 2016 and 2020, winning the 2016. and 2020 United States Olympic Trials.
Daniel Haugh is an American track and field athlete competing in the hammer throw. He competed in the men's hammer throw event at the 2020 Summer Olympics held in Tokyo, Japan.
Camryn Rogers is a Canadian athlete specializing in the hammer throw. She is the reigning Olympic and World champion in that discipline, in both cases the first Canadian woman to win that title, and only the second Canadian woman to win gold at the World Athletics Championships in any discipline. Her Olympic gold medal was the first for a Canadian woman in track and field in 96 years.
Annette Nneka Echikunwoke is a Nigerian-American hammer thrower who lives in Ohio, United States. She was due to represent Nigeria at the 2020 Summer Olympics, but was disqualified due to the negligence of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria. She changed allegiance and represented the United States at the 2024 Summer Olympics, winning a silver medal in the event, the first Olympic medal for the U.S. in the women's hammer throw event. She holds the African area record in hammer throw, with a throw of 75.49 m in Tucson in 2021.
