Tiger is an Indian film series part of the YRF Spy Universe consisting of action spy films. The original work is the 2012 film, named Ek Tha Tiger , directed by Kabir Khan and produced by Yash Raj Films. [1] It centres on a fictional RAW spy named "Avinash Singh Rathore" aka "Tiger" played by Salman Khan who falls in love with a Pakistani spy of ISI named "Zoya Humaimi" played by Katrina Kaif.

Contents

It has a sequel named Tiger Zinda Hai , directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, that released on 22 December 2017. [2] The sequel is based on the 2014 abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL. [3] The first film also spawned a series of graphic novels, published by Yomics World.

Overview

Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

Avinash "Tiger" Singh Rathore, a RAW agent, is sent to Dublin to observe an Indian scientist who is suspected of sharing nuclear secrets with the ISI. He meets and falls for his caretaker Zoya Humaimi, who is actually an ISI agent.

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)

Tiger and Zoya join hands with RAW and ISI in order to rescue a group of Indian and Pakistani nurses, who are held hostage by Abu Usman, who runs a Iraqi terrorist organisation dubbed "ISC".

Ek Tha Tiger (2012)

Ek Tha Tiger was the first installment of the series, and was released on 15 August 2012 (worldwide) to positive reviews from critics. It earned ₹325 crore worldwide [4] against a budget of ₹75 crore. [5] becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films by international gross. [6] [7]

Tiger Zinda Hai (2017)

Tiger Zinda Hai was the second installment of the series which was based on true incidents that happened in 2014 the abduction of Indian nurses by ISIL. [3] The film was released on 22 December 2017 worldwide [8] and received positive reviews from critics. [9] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 4.5 stars, and said "Salman is the lifeline, the real treasure of Tiger Zinda Hai. He sinks his teeth into the character and, in several sequences, peels off the mask of super-stardom and brings the actor to the fore. Katrina is in solid form, in action sequences specifically commands attention." [10] Tiger Zinda Hai made a new non-holiday record in India as it collected 34.1  crore nett on its first day. [11] It went on to collect ₹35.30 crore nett gross on second day. The film recorded the second highest day of all time. It netted Rs 154 crore in its first four days in India. [12] [13] The film grossed 565 crore worldwide [14] becoming the eighth highest-grossing Indian film. At the 63rd Filmfare Awards, it won for Best Action. [15]

Tiger 3 (2023)

The third installment of the franchise, titled Tiger 3 will mark the return of both Khan and Kaif and is directed by Maneesh Sharma, replacing Kabir Khan and Ali Abbas Zafar from the previous films. [17] Aditya Chopra and Shridhar Raghavan are said to have written the film. [18]
