Tigist Ketema (born 15 September 1998) is an Ethiopian track and field athlete. In 2023, she ran the fastest ever debut marathon time by a woman. [2]

Career

Ketema was a bronze medalist at the World U20 Championships in Bydgoszcz in 2016 over 800m. [3] She became national champion in 2016 at that distance, and in June 2017 won gold at the 2017 African U20 Championships in Athletics over 800m in Tlemcen, Algeria. [4]

Ketema won the Great Ethiopian Run 10 km race women’s category, in Addis Ababa, in November 2022. [5] [6] [7]

On 9 June 2023 she acted as a pacemaker for Faith Kipyegon as she broke the world record over 5000m at the Diamond League meeting in Paris. [8]

On 7 January 2024 she won the 2024 Dubai Marathon, finishing the race in 2:16:07. [9] It was the fastest ever debut marathon by a woman. [10]

She was retrospectively confirmed as the winner of the 2010 London Marathon after the top two were disqualified. Her personal best of 2:19:31 hours is a former Ethiopian record for the distance and places her within the top ten of all-time.

Jacob Kiplimo is a Ugandan long-distance runner. He is the world record holder for the half marathon, which he set on 21 November 2021 in Lisbon with a time of 57:31. He is also the 2020 Tokyo Olympic 10,000 metres bronze medallist and won bronze in the event at the 2022 World Athletics Championships. Kiplimo earned gold medals for the 5000 metres and 10,000 m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He is the 2020 World Half Marathon champion. He won silver and gold medal at the 2019 and 2023 World Cross Country Championships respectively.

Tigst Assefa Tessema is an Ethiopian long-distance runner and the marathon female world record holder. She is the only woman in history to run a marathon in under two hours 12 minutes and two hours 13 minutes. She has competed in and won two top-tier World Marathon Majors, both in Berlin. A former 800 metres specialist, Tigst was the first woman to break 2:00 in the event and 2:20:00 in the marathon, and remains the only woman under 2:00 and 2:13:00, respectively.
