Timothy Darrell Russ [1] (born June 22, 1956) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, musician and amateur astronomer. He is best known for his roles as Lieutenant Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager , Robert Johnson in Crossroads (1986), Casey in East of Hope Street (1998), Frank on Samantha Who? , Principal Franklin on the Nickelodeon sitcom iCarly , and D. C. Montana on The Highwaymen (1987–1988). He appeared in The Rookie: Feds (2022) and reprised his role as Captain Tuvok on Season 3 of Star Trek: Picard .
Russ was born in Washington, D.C., on June 22, 1956, to a government employee mother and a U.S. Air Force officer father. [1] He spent part of his childhood in Turkey. He attended his senior year of high school at Rome Free Academy, from which he graduated in 1974. [2] He graduated from St. Edward's University with a degree in theater arts. He additionally attended graduate school at Illinois State University where he was inducted into its Hall of Fame.
During his early life, he owned many dogs. [1]
In 1985, Russ appeared in The Twilight Zone episode "Kentucky Rye" as Officer #2. He made a brief appearance in the comedy movie Spaceballs as the trooper who shouts "We ain't found shit!" while "combing" the desert with an afro comb. [3] [4]
Russ has been involved in the Star Trek franchise as a voice and film actor, writer, director, and producer. He played several minor roles before landing the role as the main character Tuvok, a character seen from the first, January 1995 episode "Caretaker" of Star Trek: Voyager. Russ screentested, in 1987, for the role of Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: The Next Generation before gaining the role of Tuvok. Russ went into Voyager as a dedicated Trekkie with an extensive knowledge of Vulcan lore [5] and has played the following roles in the Star Trek universe:
In 1995, Russ co-wrote the story for the Malibu Comics Star Trek: Deep Space Nine #29 and 30, with Mark Paniccia. Russ performed voice acting roles as Tuvok for the video games Star Trek: Voyager – Elite Force and Star Trek: Elite Force II . Russ is the director and one of the stars of the fan series Star Trek: Of Gods and Men , the first third of which was released in December 2007, with the remaining two-thirds released in 2008. [6]
Russ's character's name D. C. Montana in The Highwayman was a reference to Trek writer D. C. Fontana.[ citation needed ]
In 1990, he appeared in an episode of Freddy's Nightmares . [7]
Russ directed and co-starred in Star Trek: Renegades , and in both 2013 and 2014 reprised his role as the voice of Tuvok in the massively multiplayer online game Star Trek Online . [8]
Russ appeared as Frank, a sarcastic doorman in Christina Applegate's comedy Samantha Who? from 2007 to 2009, and appeared for six seasons as Principal Ted Franklin in Nickelodeon's show iCarly . He also portrayed a doctor on an episode of Hannah Montana , "I Am Hannah, Hear Me Croak."
Russ won an Emmy Award in 2014 for public service ads he did for the FBI's Los Angeles Field Office on intellectual property theft and cyberbullying. [9]
He played Captain Kells in the 2015 Bethesda Game Studios video game Fallout 4 . [10]
Russ has been a lifelong musician and a singer. [11] In addition, Russ has been an avid amateur astronomer most of his adult life, and is a member of the Los Angeles Astronomical Society. In February 2022, he stated that he owned a 10-inch Dobsonian telescope, an 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, and a Unistellar eVscope. [12]

Star Trek: Voyager is an American science fiction television series created by Rick Berman, Michael Piller and Jeri Taylor. It originally aired from January 16, 1995 to May 23, 2001 on UPN, with 172 episodes over seven seasons. It is the fifth series in the Star Trek franchise. Set in the 24th century, when Earth is part of a United Federation of Planets, it follows the adventures of the Starfleet vessel USS Voyager as it attempts to return home to the Alpha Quadrant after being stranded in the Delta Quadrant on the far side of the Milky Way galaxy.
Vulcans, sometimes referred to as Vulcanians, are a fictional extraterrestrial humanoid species in the Star Trek universe and media franchise. In the various Star Trek television series and films, they are noted for their attempt to live by logic and reason with as little interference from emotion as possible. Known for their pronounced eyebrows and pointed ears, they originate from the fictional planet Vulcan. In the Star Trek universe, they were the first extraterrestrial species to make contact with humans.
Tuvok is a fictional character in the Star Trek media franchise and a main character in the television series Star Trek: Voyager. Tuvok is a Vulcan who serves as the ship's second officer, Chief of Security, and Chief Tactical Officer. He was portrayed by Tim Russ throughout the show's run from 1995 to 2001, as well as in subsequent portrayals.

Robert Alphonse Picardo is an American actor. He is best known for playing the Cowboy in Innerspace, Coach Cutlip on The Wonder Years, Captain Dick Richard on the ABC series China Beach, the Doctor on Star Trek: Voyager and Richard Woolsey in the Stargate franchise. He is a frequent collaborator of Joe Dante and is a member of The Planetary Society's Board of Directors.
"Tuvix" is the 40th episode of the science fiction television program Star Trek: Voyager. The episode originally aired on May 6, 1996, and tells the story of Tuvok and Neelix being merged into a unique third character named Tuvix.

Matt McKenzie is an actor best known for his voicework in games and movies. He is the voice of Auron in the RPG games Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy X-2, and Kingdom Hearts II. He also provided the English voice of Borgoff in the movie Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, Ptolemy in Reign: The Conqueror, and Major Elliot in the animated movie Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. "Learning Curve" is the 16th episode of Star Trek: Voyager and final episode of the first season. In this episode Tuvok forces some of the Maquis crew into a Starfleet training program and systems malfunction throughout the ship as the bio-neural gel packs begin to fail. It was seen by 8.3 million in the U.S. at its debut in May 1995. This episode has several guest stars including Derek McGrath as Chell, Kenny Morrison as Gerron, and Catherine McNeal as Henley. Tuvok is part of the regular cast and is played by Tim Russ.
Star Trek: Of Gods and Men is a noncanonical, three-part, unofficial Star Trek fan miniseries, which contains many cast members from the Star Trek TV series and movies. Described by the producers as a "40th-anniversary gift" from Star Trek actors to their fans, it was filmed in 2006, but its release was delayed until 2007–08. It was not endorsed by the rights-holders of Star Trek, but has been covered on the official Star Trek website.
"Meld" is the 32nd episode of Star Trek: Voyager, the 16th episode of the second season. In this science fiction television show, a crewman is murdered aboard starship Voyager. Tuvok investigates and the character Suder is introduced. However, when Tuvok conducts a Vulcan mind meld, things go further awry.
"Innocence" is the 38th episode of Star Trek: Voyager, the 22nd episode of the second season.
"Tsunkatse" is the fifteenth episode of the sixth season of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Voyager. The episode first aired on the UPN network on February 9, 2000. Directed by Mike Vejar, it was developed from a story by Gannon Kenney and turned into a teleplay by Robert Doherty. The episode featured Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson in a guest role as a Pendari fighter, and former Star Trek: Deep Space Nine actors J. G. Hertzler and Jeffrey Combs.
Several characters within the Star Trek franchise, primary and secondary, often made crossover appearances between one series and another. This included appearances of established characters on premiere episodes of new series, a few long-term transfers from one series to another, and even crossovers between Trek films and television. A few crossover appearances, such as that of Spock on The Next Generation and the time-travel of the crew of Deep Space Nine to the era of The Original Series were especially lauded by both fans and critics.
