The following is a timeline of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and its member teams. Founded in 2017 and later beginning play in 2018, the league currently features 29 member teams as of 2024.

Pre-MPBL history (1998–2011)

Some teams predate the MPBL's establishment in 2017, particularly with the former incarnations of those teams. These include:

Semi-professional era (2018–2020)

2018 season: First season

The league was established in 2017 and began its inaugural season in January 2018. This season featured ten teams, all of which are based in Luzon.

2018–19 season: National expansion

This season featured 26 teams, with all ten charter teams returning while the league added sixteen expansion teams. With the league marking its national expansion, the teams were split into two geographical divisions: the North and South Divisions. [1] Mid-season, the MPBL side of the Zamboanga Valientes split to become the Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines. [2]

2019–20 season

This season featured 31 teams, which is the biggest the league has ever gotten. Six expansion teams were admitted into the league: Bacolod Master Sardines, Bicol Volcanoes, Iloilo United Royals, Mindoro Tamaraws, Nueva Ecija MiGuard, and Soccsksargen Marlins. One team, the Mandaluyong El Tigre became the first team to depart from the league. The league also did its first realignment with the Marikina Shoemasters, Parañaque Patriots, and Rizal Golden Coolers moving to the North Division.

Professional era (2022–present)

2022 season

This season featured 22 teams after nine teams from the previous season all departed from the league, marking the first time the league contracted in size. This season would have seen the full-time debut of the Negros Muscovados, but was postponed to the following season. [3] The Rizal Golden Coolers were realigned back to the South Division.

2023 season

This season featured 29 teams. Two expansion teams joined the league: the Negros Muscovados and the Quezon Huskers. [4] Five teams also made their return: the Bulacan Kuyas, Bicol Volcanoes, Iloilo United Royals, Parañaque Patriots, and Pasay Voyagers. The Rizal Golden Coolers were realigned for the third straight season, moving back to the North Division. [5]

2024 season

This season featured 29 teams. Two expansion teams were admitted into the league, both from Northern Luzon: the Abra Weavers and the Pangasinan Heatwaves. [6] A third expansion team, the Tarlac United Force, withdrew due to financial concerns. [7] The Davao Occidental Tigers made their return after being absent the past two seasons while three teams departed from the league: the Bacoor City Strikers, Makati OKBet Kings, and Pasig City MCW Sports. The Parañaque Patriots were realigned back to the South Division.

The 2018–19 MPBL season, also known as the MPBL Datu Cup, was the second season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. The regular season began on June 12, 2018 with the opening ceremonies Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City, and ended on March 11, 2019. The league also held its first ever All-Star Game at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay on March 2, 2019. The playoffs then began on March 12, 2019 and ended on April 25, 2019 when the San Juan Knights defeated the Davao Occidental Tigers in five games in the 2019 MPBL finals.

It was also the last season of the league's amateur era, as they would turn professional in December 2021. The regular season began June 12, 2019 with the opening ceremonies at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, and ended on February 12, 2020. The 2020 MPBL All-Star Game was also held at the same venue on February 13, 2020. The playoffs then began on February 15, 2020.

The Biñan Tatak Gel is a Filipino professional basketball team based in Biñan, Laguna. The team competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's South Division. They are one of five teams based in the Calabarzon region and play their home games at Alonte Sports Arena.

The 2022 MPBL season was the fourth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the first as a professional league. The regular season began on April 25, 2022 with opening ceremonies at the Batangas City Sports Coliseum in Batangas City, Batangas, and ended on October 13. The 2022 MPBL All-Star Game was also held at the Batangas City Coliseum on October 2. The playoffs then began on October 15 and ended on December 12 when the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards defeated the Zamboanga Family's Brand Sardines in four games in the 2022 MPBL finals.

The team currently competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's South Division. They are one of two teams based in the Negros Island Region, the other being the Bacolod City of Smiles. Both teams play their home games at La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod.

The team competes in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) as a member of the league's South Division. They are one of two teams based in the Negros Island Region, the other being the Negros Muscovados. Both teams play their home games at La Salle Coliseum.

The 2022 MPBL playoffs was the postseason tournament of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League's 2022 season, the league's fourth overall, and the third under the 16-team format. The postseason tournament began on October 15, 2022, two days after the end of the regular season on October 13, 2022, and concluded on December 12, 2022, following the conclusion of the 2022 MPBL finals.

The 2023 MPBL playoffs was the postseason tournament of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League's 2023 season, the league's fifth overall, and the fourth under the 16-team format. The North Division is one of two divisions in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL), the other being the South Division. Both divisions were formed as a result of the league's national expansion in the 2018–19 season. As of 2024, the North Division consists of 14 teams.

It was the fifth edition of the MPBL All-Star Game, which took place at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City, the home arena of the Zamboanga Master Sardines.
