The Philippine Basketball League (PBL) was a commercial semi-professional basketball league in the Philippines. The league was composed of several commercial teams with several collegiate and provincial stars.
Isabelo "Jojo" Lastimosa Jr. is a Filipino professional basketball coach and former player. He is the team manager for the TNT Tropang Giga of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He played in the PBA for the Purefoods Hotdogs, the Alaska Aces and the Pop Cola Panthers from 1988 to 2002. He was also a former member of the Philippines' national basketball team during the 1980s and 1990s. He also played for the University of San Jose–Recoletos in Cebu City. He had also a stint with the Ateneo de Manila. He is known by the nicknames "Jolas", "Mr. Clutch", "The 4th Quarter Man", and "PBA Jordan" for his deadly perimeter shooting.

The Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) was a community-based amateur commercial basketball league in Southern Philippines, sanctioned by the country's National Sports Association for basketball, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). He played three years of college basketball for Southwestern University, which ended with his lifetime ban from the CESAFI due to moonlighting in another league. He then played in Liga Pilipinas and the PBA D-League before he was drafted by the Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters in the 2013 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) draft. He later played for PBA teams Air21 Express and Kia Carnival. The 2024 MPBL finals was the championship series of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League's (MPBL) 2024 season and the conclusion of the season's playoffs. In the best-of-five playoff, the North Division champion Pampanga Giant Lanterns defeated the South Division champion Quezon Huskers to become the first team in the league to win two championships and to do so in back-to-back seasons. The series began on December 1 and ended on December 7.
