Tina S. Kaidanow (born 1965) [1] is a U.S. diplomat and government official. She served as the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs before moving to the United States Department of Defense. From 2008 to 2009,Kaidanow served as United States Ambassador to Kosovo.
Kaidanow earned Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and another master's degree in political science from Columbia University in New York,as well as a certificate in Russian studies from the Harriman Institute at Columbia. [2]
Kaidanow is a career member of the United States Foreign Service. She has had assignments in Belgrade (1995–1997),Skopje (1998–1999),Sarajevo (1997–1998 and 2003–2006),Pristina (2006–2009),and Kabul (2012–2013),and as well as the United States National Security Council and the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs (2009–2011). [2] [3] At the National Security Council,Kaidanow had the position of Director for Southeast European Affairs. [2]
In Skopje,from 1998 to 1999,Kaidanow served as special assistant to United States Ambassador to Macedonia Christopher R. Hill. Kaidanow later became the Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. embassy in Sarajevo from 2003 to 2006. [2]
In 2006,Kaidanow became the Chargéd'Affaires for the U.S. Office in Pristina. In 2008,the Republic of Kosovo declared independence from Serbia,and was subsequently recognized by the United States. The new U.S. embassy in Pristina opened,with Kaidanow as the first United States Ambassador to Kosovo. [4] [5]
From August 2009 to June 2011,Kaidanow served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs,and then served as the bureau's Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary until 2012. [6] From September 2012 to October 2013,Kaidanow served as the DCM at the U.S. embassy in Kabul,Afghanistan. [2] In this capacity,according to Politico,she vetoed a plan to prosecute Taliban commanders and their drug lord allies in U.S. courts for drug trafficking,because of concerns about the country's political stability. [7]
Kaidanow served as the Coordinator for Counterterrorism from February 2014 to February 2016. [2] In February 2016,Kaidanow moved to the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs as the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary. [8]
On September 25,2018, [9] Kaidanow was appointed as a senior advisor for international cooperation in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment. [10] [11] [12] [13] She resigned on December 16,2019, [14] [15] [16] and will leave the Pentagon January 10,2020.[ citation needed ]
Zalmay Mamozy Khalilzad is an American diplomat and foreign policy expert. Khalilzad was U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation from September 2018 to October 2021. Khailzad was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as United States Ambassador to the United Nations,serving in the role from 2007 to 2009. Khalilzad was the highest ranking Muslim-American in government at the time he left the position. Prior to this,Khalilzad served in the Bush administration as Ambassador to Afghanistan from 2004 to 2005 and Ambassador to Iraq from 2005 to 2007.

William Joseph Burns is an American diplomat who has served as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in the Biden administration since March 19,2021. He previously served as U.S. deputy secretary of state from 2011 to 2014;in 2009 he served as acting secretary of state for a day prior to the Senate confirmation of Hillary Clinton. Burns retired from the U.S. Foreign Service in 2014 after a 32-year diplomatic career. From 2014 to 2021,he served as president of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
Ross L. Wilson is an American diplomat who was the chargéd'affaires of the United States to Afghanistan from 2020 to 2021. He was the U.S. ambassador to Turkey from 2005 to 2008 and the U.S. ambassador to Azerbaijan from 2000 to 2003,with the personal rank of minister-counselor. He also teaches part-time at Carleton College. Wilson also previously served as director of the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center at the Atlantic Council.
Tracey Ann Jacobson is an American diplomat and a former United States Ambassador to Turkmenistan,Tajikistan,Kosovo and Ethiopia. She served as the Acting Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs from January 2017 through October 2017. She retired then returned to active duty in 2021 as the State Department's Director of the Afghanistan Task Force,and then as Chargéd’Affaires,ad interim,at the Embassy in Addis Ababa,Ethiopia. She attended Johns Hopkins University.

Earl Anthony Wayne is an American diplomat. Formerly Assistant Secretary of State for Economic and Business Affairs,Ambassador to Argentina and Deputy Ambassador to Afghanistan,Wayne served nearly four years as Ambassador to Mexico. He was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the Senate in August,2011. He departed Mexico City for Washington July 31,2015 and retired from the State Department on September 30,2015. Wayne attained the highest rank in the U.S. diplomatic service:Career Ambassador. He is currently a Professorial Lecturer and Distinguished Diplomat in Residence at American University's School of International Service where he teaches courses related to diplomacy and US foreign policy. Wayne also works with the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars,the Atlantic Council,the Center for Strategic and International Studies,. Wayne is co-chair of the Mexico Institute's Advisory Board at the Wilson Center. He is also on the board of the American Academy of Diplomacy and the Public Diplomacy Council of America. Wayne is an independent consultant,speaker and writer and works with several not-for-profit professional associations. He was an adviser for HSBC Latin America on improving management of financial crime risk from 2015 until 2019 and served on the board of the American Foreign Service Association from 2017 to 2019.
James William Pardew Jr. was an American diplomat,international negotiator,military officer,and United States Ambassador to Bulgaria. After serving as a military intelligence officer in the United States Army for 28 years,Pardew entered the arena of international diplomacy with a heavy focus on the Balkans,where he was instrumental in coordinating agreements and peace resolutions,as well as heading major State Department programs such as the Bosnian Train-and-equip program.
The Embassy of the United States of America in Kabul was the official diplomatic mission of the United States of America to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan. The embassy was housed in a chancery located on Great Massoud Road in the Wazir Akbar Khan neighborhood of the Afghan capital,Kabul,and was built at a cost of nearly $800 million. On August 15,2021,in the face of a Taliban advance on Kabul,embassy staff relocated to makeshift but secure facilities at Hamid Karzai International Airport. Kabul fell and the chancery building officially closed late August 15th.

Jerry P. Lanier He was a career diplomat with the Department of State. Lanier was a former acting U.S. Ambassador to Sudan. He was in this position from May 13,2014 to February 26,2016. He was the Acting Coordinator for Counterterrorism in the Bureau of Counterterrorism,at the Department of State from December 2012 to February 2014. He was a former Ambassador from the United States of America to the Republic of Uganda.

Philip Scott Kosnett is an American diplomat. He was sworn in as the fifth U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo on November 27,2018. Kosnett's previous assignment was as Chargéd'Affaires ad interim at the United States Embassy in Ankara,Turkey. Kosnett was nominated in July 2018 by U.S. president Trump to be the next ambassador to the Republic of Kosovo. The Senate confirmed him in this position in September 2018. Kosnett arrived in Kosovo in December 2018 and departed post in September 2021.
Michael John Murphy is an American diplomat who has served as the United States ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina since February 2022.
