Dharmendra "Tinu" Suresh Desai (born 28 August 1974) is an Indian film director. [1] [2] Tinu Suresh Desai was born on 28 August 1974 in Mumbai Maharashtra, India in a Gujarati-speaking family, his birth name is Dharmendra. He is a son of production manager Suresh Desai, who is known for films like Sholay , Shaan and Seeta aur Geeta. Tinu Desai has started his career in the film industry as assistant director with 1997 film Zameer: The Awakening of a Soul , later he worked as the chief assistant and associate director for films like Arjun Pandit , Anari No. 1 and Players . In 2016, Desai made his directorial debut with 1920 London starring Sharman Joshi and Meera Chopra. [3]

Tinu Desai is known for the Akshay Kumar starrer film Rustom released in 2016, was reportedly based on K. M. Nanavati v. State of Maharashtra's 1959 court case. [4] The film featured Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa, and Esha Gupta. In 2016, he was felicitated with Star Screen Award [5] and ETC Bollywood Business Awards 2016 "Most Promising Debut Director" [6] [7] [8] [9] for Rustom. Akshay Kumar won his 1st National Film Award for Rustom. [10]

Tinu Desai has directed Mission Raniganj , [11] [12] [13] [14] [15] a Akshay Kumar & Parineeti Chopra Starrer film based on the chief mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, who evacuated 65 miners trapped in a flooded coal mine in Raniganj, West Bengal, in 1989. [16]

<i>Airlift</i> (film) 2016 Indian film by Raja Krishna Menon

Airlift is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language thriller drama film directed by Raja Krishna Menon starring Akshay Kumar and Nimrat Kaur, that follows Ranjit Katyal, a Kuwait-based businessman as he carries out the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein's Iraq which led to the beginning of the Gulf War. The film was jointly produced by Abundantia Entertainment, Cape of Good Films, Emmay Entertainment, Hari Om Entertainment, T-Series and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures on a total budget of ₹320 million. The plot is adapted from the real life story of a Kuwait-based Indian businessman Mathunny Mathews.

The ETC Bollywood Business Awards are presented annually by ETC Bollywood Business to award Bollywood films. This is the only award in India which judges films based on their box-office performances. The ETC Bollywood Business Awards were launched in 2010.

Rustom is a 2016 Indian Hindi-language crime thriller film directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and written by Vipul K Rawal. The film is jointly produced by Cape of Good Films, Zee Studios, KriArj Entertainment, Plan C Studios. It stars Akshay Kumar as Rustom Pavri - a naval officer, Ileana D'Cruz, Arjan Bajwa and Esha Gupta in lead roles. The film is loosely based on the K. M. Nanavati v. State of Maharashtra court case, and narrates the story of naval officer Rustom, who shares a happy relationship with his wife Cynthia. Soon, he discovers her affair with Vikram, a close friend, and is accused of murdering him.
