For several years,he was considered the world's finest ODI batsman,and topped the ICC ODI batting rankings on numerous occasions. He was the first Canberra-born player to represent Australia at international level. He was known for his ability to run between the wickets,score at a quick rate,rotate the strike,and for his ability to play shots down the ground with ease. He played 232 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia,and was a part of the Australian squads which won the 1999 Cricket World Cup and the 2003 Cricket World Cup. He represented Australia at the 1998 Commonwealth Games,where cricket was included in the Commonwealth Games for the first time,and won a silver medal with his national side.

Glamorgan played two 50-over matches at The Gnoll in Neath,their first matches there for 27 years,but for the third season in a row,they did not play any matches at Penrhyn Avenue in Rhos-on-Sea.
