Thomas Palmer Thompson (born August 15, 1995) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a right-back for Major League Soccer club San Jose Earthquakes.
Thompson played one year of college soccer at Indiana University where he scored five goals and one assist in 12 matches and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2013, [2] [3] before signing a Homegrown Player contract with San Jose Earthquakes on March 14, 2014. [4]
Thompson made his professional debut on June 7, 2014, as an 89th-minute substitute in a 0–1 loss to Toronto FC. [5]
On June 26, 2014, Thompson signed on loan with San Jose's USL Pro affiliate club Sacramento Republic FC. [6]
Thompson recorded his first MLS assist in a 1–1 draw against Orlando City SC on May 17, 2017, coming off the bench in the 82nd minute to assist Chris Wondolowski's game-tying goal in the 83rd minute. [7]
He scored his first MLS goal on July 4, 2017, in the 2nd minute of a 4–2 loss to Atlanta United FC at Bobby Dodd Stadium. [8] Thompson's first goal came after making 64 MLS appearances over four years and logging 2,633 league minutes. [9] On August 7, he was named to the MLS Team of the Week after recording his third assist of the season in the Earthquakes' 2–1 victory over Columbus Crew SC on August 5. [10] He was announced as a nominee for the MLS Humanitarian of the Year Award on October 14, 2017. [11] On October 22 he received San Jose's club award for Humanitarian of the Year after leading a number of youth clinics in the area and for actively aiding relief efforts in the wake of the 2017 California floods. [12]
Tommy's older brother is fellow soccer player Tanner, who played for Indy Eleven in the North American Soccer League. [13] His father is American former professional soccer player Gregg Thompson. [14]

Sacramento Republic
The San Jose Earthquakes are an American professional soccer club based in San Jose, California. The Earthquakes compete as a member club of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). Originally as the San Jose Clash, the franchise began play in 1996 as one of the charter members of the league. The Earthquakes took part in the first game in MLS history, defeating D.C. United 1–0. The Earthquakes have won two MLS Cup titles and two Supporters' Shields. In 2002, the team played in its first CONCACAF Champions Cup, making it to the quarterfinals. The team holds a fierce rivalry with the LA Galaxy known as the California Clásico.
Todd Dunivant is an American former soccer player who played 13 years in Major League Soccer winning 5 MLS Cup trophies. After retirement he spearheaded the San Francisco Deltas professional soccer team as the Director of Soccer Operations and Business Development —winning the NASL Championship in its expansion season. He currently serves as the general manager of Sacramento Republic FC.
Christopher Elliott Wondolowski is an American former professional soccer player who played as a forward. He was MLS's top scorer in the 2010 and 2012 seasons, also being named the 2012 Most Valuable Player, and was one of the top strikers during his time playing in Major League Soccer. With 171 goals in Major League Soccer, he is the highest scorer in the competition's history, as well as the only player in league history to score 150 or more regular-season goals.
