Tony William Negus AO , APM is an Australian diplomat and retired police officer who was the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police (AFP),being sworn in on 7 September 2009 for a five-year term. [1] He was the sixth Commissioner of the AFP [2] and the second appointed from within the AFP [3] On 1 December 2014,he was appointed Australian High Commissioner to Canada effective sometime in January 2015. [4]
Negus holds a master's degree in Public Policy and Administration,and a Graduate Diploma in Executive Leadership. At Harvard University he has completed the Executive Leadership Program. [5] [6]
Negus started his law enforcement career in traffic operations [1] [7] in Canberra in 1982, [6] and later as a detective in the Australian Capital Territory. [1] He worked in community policing,federal investigations,human resources,and protection [5] as well as in national operations in Brisbane,Sydney,and Canberra. [1]
In June 2005,Negus was awarded the Australian Police Medal (APM). [5] [6] [8] One year later,in July 2006,Negus was appointed National Manager of Human Resources,with responsibility for learning and development,professional standards,and people strategies. Before he was appointed as Commissioner of the AFP he had been Deputy Commissioner Operations since October 2007,where he had responsibility for border operations,economic and special operations,forensics and data centres,high technology crime operations,internal liaison networks,and international deployments. He stepped down from his role as Commissioner at the end of his term in September 2014 and was replaced by his former deputy Andrew Colvin. [9] [10]

ACT Policing is the portfolio of the Australian Federal Police (AFP) responsible for providing policing services to the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). The Australian Capital Territory Police was an independent police force responsible for policing the ACT until 19 October 1979,when it was merged with the Commonwealth Police to form the AFP.
The Australian Protective Service (APS) was an Australian Commonwealth law enforcement agency which existed between 1984 and 2004. Colin Stanley Winchester was an assistant commissioner in the Australian Federal Police (AFP). Winchester commanded ACT Police,the community policing component of the AFP responsible for the Australian Capital Territory. In 1989 he was assassinated by an unknown perpetrator.
Audrey Ann Fagan was an Australian police officer,who,between 2005 and 2007,held the rank of Assistant Commissioner and served as the Chief Police Officer of Australian Capital Territory (ACT) Policing,which includes community policing responsibilities for Canberra and other parts of the ACT.
