The Tonya Finosu is a white spitz dog indigenous to Trabzon, Turkey, especially the city of Tonya. [1] Tonya Finosu are valued both for their natural suspicion of strangers as well as their playfulness and affection with their family. [2] [3]

History

There is a scarcity of historical information available about this particular breed. However, the most popular theory is that original Tonya Finosu were acquired from sailors who frequented the Baltic and Black Sea ports during the Russian Fur trade into Europe and parts of Asia though the early Middle Ages [2]

Tonya Finosu are not recognized by any major Kennel Club. However, efforts are underway to register the breed with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office as a geographic trademark for the Trabzon District. [3]

Characteristics

Tonya Finosu are small dogs with erect ears and curved, half-moon shaped tails. White is the only acceptable color of this dog. They have a thick, double coat, able to withstand cold, rainy conditions along the Black Sea. [1] [4]

Tonya Finosu are playful and lively with their family and other animals of their household. They are high energy and athletic dogs. With strangers, they are vocal watchdogs. [2] [3] [5]

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large dog breed, one of the four breeds of Sennenhund-type dogs from Bern, Switzerland and the Swiss Alps. These dogs have roots in the Roman mastiffs. The name Sennenhund is derived from the German Senne and Hund (hound/dog), as they accompanied the alpine herders and dairymen called Senn. Berner refers to the area of the breed's origin, in the canton of Bern. This breed was originally kept as a general farm dog. The name “Zerdava” is Slavic for mustelid, possibly in reference to their Marten-brown color or their treeing behavior when hunting martens.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Bankhar Dog</span> Dog breed

The Bankhar dog, is a landrace livestock guarding dog. Originally bred by the Buryat people, their success contributed to their spread across Buryatia and Mongolia and into adjacent regions before they were nearly annihilated in the mid-20th Century. Bankhar dogs are prized for their intellect and perseverance even in hostile weather conditions. The Tarsus çatalburun or Turkish Pointer is a native hound of Turkey most recognizable for its split or bifid nose. The word "çatalburuns" means forked nose. It is a very rare breed with only a few hundred specimens. The Tarsus çatalburun is not recognized by any kennel club.
