Town Hall of Mangalore, inaugurated on 29 December 1964 is a Town Hall situated in Hampankatta locality of Mangalore, Karnataka which is a prominent platform for all major social, political and cultural events in the city. [1]

Overview

Yakshagana, Tulu, Kannada, Konkani Dramas are staged in Town Hall. [2] [3] [4] Especially most of the Tulu Drama's maiden show is played here before the teams start their tours. [5]

It was renovated in November 2016 at a cost of Rs 4.58 crore and was inaugurated on Children Day [6]

Tulu (Tulu: ತುಳು ಭಾಷೆ Tulu bāse Tulu can be written in three different scripts: Tulu bāse is written in Tulu script, Kannada: ತುಳು ಬಾಸೆ in Kannada script. ಭಾಷೆ bhāṣe, ಭಾಶೆ, bhāśe, and ಬಾಶೆ bāśe are alternative spellings for the Tulu word bāse in the Kannada script. Mangalore, officially known as Mangaluru, is the chief port city of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats mountain range about 352 km (219 mi) west of Bangalore, the state capital. Mangalore is the state's only city to have all four modes of transport—air, road, rail and sea. The population of the urban agglomeration was 619,664 according to the provisional results of the 2011 national census of India.

Dakshina Kannada is a district in the state of Karnataka in India. It is sheltered by the Western Ghats on the east and surrounded by the Arabian Sea on the west, Dakshina Kannada receives abundant rainfall during the monsoon. It is bordered by Udupi District to the north, Chikmagalur district to the northeast, Hassan District to the east, Kodagu to the southeast and Kasaragod District of Kerala to the south. It is the second major district of Karnataka in all the aspects after Bangalore Urban district. Mangalore is the capital city and the district headquarters. Tulu Nadu Region in India

Tulu Nadu, also called as Tulunaad, is a region on the southwestern coast of India. The Tulu people, known as 'Tuluva', speakers of Tulu, a Dravidian language, are the preponderant ethnic group of this region. South Canara, an erstwhile district, encompassing the undivided territory of the contemporary Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Kasaragod districts, forms the cultural area of the Tuluver.

The Tulu people or Tuluva people are an ethnic group native to Southern India. They are native speakers of the Tulu language and the region they traditionally inhabit is known as Tulu Nadu. This region comprises the districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi in Karnataka and parts of Kasaragod district of Kerala. The Census report of 2011 reported a population of 1,846,427 native Tulu speakers living in India.

Mangalorean Catholics are an ethno-religious community of Catholics following the Latin Rite from the Mangalore Diocese on the southwestern coast of Karnataka, India. They are Konkani people and speak the Konkani language.

Tulu Nadu state movement

The Tulu Nadu state movement is aimed at increasing Tulu Nadu's influence and political power through the formation of a separate Tulu Nadu state from Karnataka and Kerala. Tulu Nadu is a region on the south-western coast of India. It consists of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka, and the northern parts of the Kasargod district up to the Chandragiri river in Kerala. The Chandragiri river is traditionally considered to be a boundary between Tulu Nadu and Kerala from the fourteenth century AD onwards. The first call for Tulu Nadu was made just after the Quit India Movement in 1942 by Srinivas Updhyaya Paniyadi, a banker and a press owner from Udupi. Mangalore is the largest and the chief city of Tulu Nadu. Tulu activists have been demanding a separate Tulu Nadu state since the late 2000s, considering language and culture as the basis for their demand.

Bola Chittaranjan Das Shetty writer

Bola Chittaranjan Shetty is a famous Tulu and Kannada writer, who was the president of the 16th Mangalore Taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan held in year 2010. He died at his residence on 7 August 2016, and his cremation was held at Kuthar Guthu. He was 72.

Kazar is a 2009 Konkani film directed by Richard Castelino and produced by Frank Fernandes. It stars Larry Fernandes and Harshika Poonachcha. Larry stars in the movie as a NRI boy, who comes back to Mangalore to get married, while Harshika plays the role of his bride. The movie was initially scheduled to be released on 9 September 2009 but was delayed by two months, finally being released on 27 November 2009.

World Konkani Centre organization

World Konkani Centre was founded by Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Prathistan at Konkani Gaon, Shakti Nagar, Mangalore, to serve as a nodal agency for the preservation and overall development of Konkani language, art and culture involving all the Konkani people the world over.

Mangalore Dasara

The Mangalore Dasara, is a festival in the Indian city of Mangalore organized by Kudroli Shri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple. It is also referred as Navarathri Festival, Vijayadashami. The tiger dance, lion dance and bear dance are the main attractions. The city is decorated with lights for the span of 10 days of the occasion.

Ranjith Kumar, popularly known as Ranjith Bajpe is an Indian film director and Screen Writer known for his work in Tulu cinema. He is best known for directing First International Tulu film Nirel (2014) which won 5 awards including the best movie award at Tulu Cinemotsava 2015. He also written directed Dhand (2015) which is the first Tulu language movie released in Israel Australia and UK. Ranjith Bajpe usually casts new actors for his movies.

Deepak Paladka Indian actor

Deepak D Silva popularly known as Deepak Paladka, is an Indian film actor and stage artist known for his work in Tulu cinema. He is best known for his role in Tulu film Nirel (2014) which won 5 awards including the best movie award at Tulu Cinemotsava 2015. Later he acted in Dhand (2015) which is the first Tulu language movie released in Australia and UK. Deepak Paladka also acted in Konkani movie Ek Aslyar Ek Na, Zanvoy no 1(2018), Benddkar (2019) was released in UAE, Israel, Kuwait and India. He also acted in Kannada Cinema Asathoma Sadgamaya

Sandeep Shetty

Sandeep Shetty is an Indian actor known for his roles in Tulu Cinemas like Dhand, Madime, Ekka Saka and many Dramas and stage performances. He, along with his team, Prashamsa won Bale Telipale, a stand up comedy contest show on Namma TV for three consecutive years in Coastal Karnataka. Sandeep has performed more than 1000 stage shows in international locations such as Muscat, Dubai, Kuwait and Bahrain, as well as locations within India including Bengaluru, Mumbai and Pune.

Bhojaraj Vamanjoor is an Indian actor, who predominantly works in Tulu theatre and Tulu film industry. Vamanjoor is also a Yakshagana Artist. He is one of the active members of the Tulu drama troupe "Cha Parka Kalavidher Kudla" along with Devadas Kapikad, Naveen D. Padil and Aravind Bolar. He can be seen in most all of the Tulu play directed by Devadas Kapikad.

Roopesh Shetty is an actor in the Kannada, Tulu film industry. He is also a well known Radio Jockey in Mangalore and a model, He acted in 3 languages like Kannada Tulu and Konkani .
