Tržec (pronounced [ˈtəɾʒəts] ) is a settlement at the confluence of the Polskava River with the Dravinja in the Municipality of Videm in eastern Slovenia. The area traditionally belonged to the Styria region. It is now included in the Drava Statistical Region. [2]
In geography, a confluence occurs where two or more flowing bodies of water join together to form a single channel. A confluence can occur in several configurations: at the point where a tributary joins a larger river ; or where two streams meet to become the source of a river of a new name ; or where two separated channels of a river rejoin at the downstream end.
The Polskava is a river in Styria, Slovenia. The river is 40 kilometres (25 mi) in length. Its source is on the Pohorje Massif, near Saint Henry's Church at the Maribor Pohorje Ski Resort. It passes Šmartno na Pohorju, Zgornja Polskava, Spodnja Polskava, Pragersko, and Lovrenc na Dravskem Polju, and merges with the Dravinja River near Videm pri Ptuju.
The Dravinja is the largest tributary of the Drava River in Slovenia. It is 73 kilometres (45 mi) long. Its source is on the Pohorje Massif southwest of Mount Rogla about 1,150 m above sea level. The river passes Zreče, the town of Slovenske Konjice, the ruins of the fort at Zbelovo, Poljčane, Makole, Štatenberg Castle, Majšperk, and Videm pri Ptuju, where it merges with the Drava. Its main tributary is the river Polskava.
There is a small rectangular chapel-shrine with a polygonal apse in the settlement. It was built in 1922. [3]
A wayside shrine is a religious image, usually in some sort of small shelter, placed by a road or pathway, sometimes in a settlement or at a crossroads, but often in the middle of an empty stretch of country road, or at the top of a hill or mountain. They have been a feature of many cultures, including Catholic and Orthodox Europe and Shinto Japan.
In architecture, an apse is a semicircular recess covered with a hemispherical vault or semi-dome, also known as an exedra. In Byzantine, Romanesque, and Gothic Christian church architecture, the term is applied to a semi-circular or polygonal termination of the main building at the liturgical east end, regardless of the shape of the roof, which may be flat, sloping, domed, or hemispherical. Smaller apses may also be in other locations, especially shrines.
