Tribal Mobilization, also known as Tribal Fighters, is a group of Sunni tribesmen in Iraq that was formed to combat the Islamic State (IS). It is important to distinguish this group from another force sometimes referred to as Tribal Mobilization, which was formerly known as the National Mobilization and is now called the Nineveh Guard, associated with the political figure Atheel al-Nujaifi. In 2017, Thamer Al-Tamimi, the Deputy Chief of the Sunni Tribal Mobilization, publicly expressed a growing sense of disillusionment among Sunni leaders in Iraq. In an interview with Al-Hadath TV, Al-Tamimi stated that relying on support from Arab states would not be beneficial to Iraqi Sunnis. He accused some of these states of using Iraqi Sunnis as part of their regional competition with Iran. Al-Tamimi also mentioned that the Tribal Mobilization had sought assistance from Gulf countries in their fight against IS, but according to him, these requests went unanswered. [3] [4]
In October 2016, Iraqi officials reported that 21 members of the Tribal Mobilization Forces were killed during a US bombing operation south of Mosul. [5]
The Badr Organization, previously known as the Badr Brigades or Badr Corps, is an Iraqi Shia Islamist and Khomeinist political party and paramilitary organization headed by Hadi al-Amiri. The Badr Brigade, formed in 1982 and led by Iranian officers, served as the military arm of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), a Shia Islamic party based in Iran. The Badr Brigade was created by Iranian intelligence and Shia cleric Mohammad Baqir al-Hakim with the aim of fighting the Ba'athist regime of Saddam Hussein during the Iran–Iraq War. Since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, most of the Badr Brigade fighters have entered the new Iraqi army and police force. Since 2003, the Badr Brigade and SCIRI were considered to be one party, but have recently unofficially separated with the Badr Organization now being an official Iraqi political party. Badr Brigade forces, and their Iranian commanders, have come to prominence in 2014 fighting the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Iraq. It is a part of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
The Mujahideen Shura Council, was an umbrella organization of at least six Sunni Islamist insurgent groups taking part in the Iraqi insurgency against U.S.-led Coalition and Iraqi forces. The groups included in the MSC were: Tanzim Qaidat al-Jihad fi Bilad al-Rafidayn, Jaish al-Ta'ifa al-Mansurah, Katbiyan Ansar Al-Tawhid wal Sunnah, Saraya al-Jihad Group, al-Ghuraba Brigades, and al-Ahwal Brigades. In mid-October 2006, a statement was released, stating that the Mujahideen Shura Council had been disbanded, and was replaced by the Islamic State of Iraq.
The Sons of Iraq, also known as al-Sahwah, were a coalition in the Al Anbar province in Iraq between Sunni tribal leaders as well as former Saddam-era Iraqi military officers that united in 2005 to maintain stability in their communities. A moderate group, they were initially sponsored by General Petraeus and the US military.
Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq, also known as the Khazali Network, is a radical Iraqi Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary organization previously active in the Iraqi insurgency and Syrian Civil War. During the Iraq War it was known as Iraq's largest "Special Group", and it is part of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in the 41st, 42nd, and 43rd Brigades, cooperating with the Iraqi government in its fight against ISIS.
The Master of Martyrs Battalion, better known as Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada' and officially the 14th Brigade, is a radical Iraqi Shiite paramilitary group formed in 2013. Its stated mission is to protect "(Shia) shrines across the globe", preserve "Iraqi unity" and to "put an end to the sectarian conflict". KSS is funded, trained and equipped by IRGC's Quds Force and Hezbollah.
The Popular Mobilization Forces, also known as the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) is a military formation of the Iraqi Armed Forces that reports directly to the Prime Minister. It is composed of about 67 primarily Shi’ie armed factions but which also include Sunni, Christian, and Yazidi groups. The PMF were formed in 2014 and fought in nearly every major battle during the War in Iraq (2013–17) against Islamic State. In December 2016, the Iraqi Council of Representatives passed a law that defined the PMF’s legal status and created the Popular Mobilization Commission, which is a formal governmental agency that includes all PMF groups.
Harakat Hezbollah al-Nujaba, officially the 12th Brigade, is a radical Iraqi Shi'ite paramilitary group that is especially active in Iraq and formerly in Ba'athist Syria. It was established in 2013 by Akram al-Kaabi to support Bashar al-Assad in Syria against Islamist rebels. The group is supported by the IRGC's Quds Force, which provides the funding, weapons, and training of its members.

Salah al-Din Brigade or 51 Brigade in Popular Mobilization Forces It is a Sunni armed group that fights alongside Shiite groups, supported by Iran, that was created to fight ISIS and was formed specifically for the battle of Mosul (2016–17). The matter began in 2014, when Yazan received a call from Baghdad asking him to meet with Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and he had obtained permission from the Popular Mobilization Command to begin forming the first Sunni faction within the ranks of the Shiite factions.
Imams Al-Baqi Brigade or 24 brigade is part of Popular Mobilization, it is an armed Iraqi group that fights alongside Shiite groups, backed by Iran and that was created to fight ISIS, Brigade is located in Diyala Governorate.
