Trigger Warning is an upcoming American action thriller film directed by Mouly Surya in her English-language film debut, and written by Halley Gross, Josh Olson and John Brancato. Produced by Thunder Road Films and Lady Spitfire, the film stars Jessica Alba and Anthony Michael Hall. The film follows a skilled Special Forces officer who takes ownership of her grandfather's bar shortly after he dies, and soon finds herself at odds with the violent gang running rampant in her hometown.

Trigger Warning was first acquired by Thunder Road Films in June 2016 with a spec script to be written by Josh Olson and John Brancato and it is described as a female-led cross between First Blood and John Wick . [3] Netflix later acquired the film in May 2020 with Jessica Alba set to star and also served as an executive producer and Mouly Surya attached to direct. [4] [5] [6] Much of the main cast rounding out in September 2021, with filming taking place in New Mexico between September and October 2021. Enis Rotthoff composed the film's score in August 2023.

Trigger Warning is scheduled to be released by Netflix in 2024.

Premise

Parker, a PTSD afflicted former service-member who inherits her grandfather's bar and faces a moral dilemma after learning the truth behind his death.

Development

On June 23, 2016, it was announced that Thunder Road Films had acquired a spec script for a feature film, titled Trigger Warning by Josh Olson and John Brancato. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce the film, and it is described as a female First Blood with John Wick thrown in for good measure, where the reluctant heroine reveals herself in a small town. On May 15, 2020, it was revealed that the film was brought by Netflix with Indonesian director Mouly Surya set to make her first English-language film, while Jessica Alba set to executive produce the film. [9] On September 2, 2021, Halley Gross was set to revise the script. [10]

Casting

Along with the announcement, Alba was set to star in the film. On September 2, 2021, Anthony Michael Hall, Mark Webber, Alejandro De Hoyos, Tone Bell, Jake Weary, and Gabriel Basso were cast in the film. [10]

Filming

On September 2, 2021, filming was set to start in New Mexico in the fall of 2021. [10] On October 1, 2021, crew member James Saul was hospitalized because a snapped cable hit and broke Saul’s leg. [11]

Music

On August 29, 2023, it was announced that Enis Rotthoff had recorded the score for the film. [12] Rothoff is best known for scoring the other movies such as Guns Akimbo , Love Sarah and The Sunlit Night .

Release

Trigger Warning is scheduled to be released by Netflix in 2024. [13]
