"Tujhse Naaraz Nahi Zindagi" (lit.'I am not angry with you, life...') [1] is an Indian Hindi song from the Bollywood film Masoom (1983), starring Shabana Azmi and Naseeruddin Shah. The lyrics of the song was written by Gulzar, and composed by R. D. Burman. The song has two different versions — female, and male, and were sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Anup Ghoshal resepectively. [2] In 1984, Gulzar won a Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for this song.

Theme

The opening lines of the song set the theme. The lyricist attempts to understand the strangeness of life. He claims he is upset, but not angry. [3] In the film Masoom, the male version of the song sings and captures a father's helplessness and the female version narrates a woman's pain in dealing with her husband's illegitimate child. [2]

Awards

Gulzar, the lyricist of this song, won a Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist for this song in 1984. R. D. Burman won an award in the category of "best soundtrack". [4]

Aandhi (transl. 'Storm') is a 1975 Indian political drama film starring Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen, and directed by Gulzar. At the time it was alleged that the film was based on the life of the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and her relationship with her estranged husband, but in reality, only the look was inspired by the politician Tarkeshwari Sinha and Indira Gandhi. The story is based on a chance meeting of an estranged couple after several years, when wife Aarti Devi, now a leading politician happens to stay in the hotel run by her husband during an election campaign. The movie is noted for its songs composed by Rahul Dev Burman, written by Gulzar and sung by Kishore Kumar and Lata Mangeshkar.

Ijaazat (transl. Permission) is a 1987 Indian Hindi-language musical romance film directed by Gulzar, based on a Bengali story, Jatugriha by Subodh Ghosh. Starring Rekha, Naseeruddin Shah, Anuradha Patel in lead roles, the film followed the story of couple who are separated and who accidentally meet in a railway station waiting room and discover some truths about their lives without each other. The film belongs to the art-house genre in India known as Parallel Cinema, and won two National Film Awards in the music category. The movie is based on the 1964 Bengali movie Jatugriha.

He started his career with music director S.D. Burman as a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and worked with many music directors including R. D. Burman, Salil Chowdhury, Vishal Bhardwaj and A. R. Rahman. Gulzar also writes poetry, dialogues and scripts. He directed films such as Aandhi and Mausam during the 1970s and the TV series Mirza Ghalib in the 1980s. He also directed Kirdaar in 1993.

"Mera Kuch Samaan" is a Hindi song from the 1987 film Ijaazat, directed by Gulzar, who also wrote the song. The song was composed by R D Burman and sung by Asha Bhosle. In the film, the song takes cue from the poem, Maya leaves behind in letter, for her former lover Mahinder, asking him to return her things. As he read on, he finds they are not physical things she wants back, but memories of times spent together.

The 31st Filmfare Awards were held in 1984, with the Indian New Wave Cinema at its peak.

"Kal Ho Naa Ho" is a Hindi-language film song performed by Sonu Nigam for the 2003 Indian romantic drama film of the same name. The track was composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy, while lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar. In a pathos version, Nigam is joined by Alka Yagnik and Richa Sharma.
