The UMBC Retrievers men's soccer team represents the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) college soccer competition. UMBC competes as a member of the America East Conference.

History

UMBC created its soccer team in 1968, three years after the founding of the university. [3]

The team's home field, Retriever Soccer Park was completed in the fall of 1998. The stadium center includes a 120-yard by 70-yard field equipped with Bermuda grass. [4]

The Retriever's winnings include: the 1999 NEC Regular Season, the 1999 Northeast Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, the America East Tournament in 2010, 2012, and 2013, 2014 and the America East Regular Season in 2003, 2013 and 2014. Additionally, the men's soccer team advanced to the first round of the 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship, the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2010, 2012, 2013, and the College Cup Final Four in 2014. 2014 Men's Final Four Coach Pete Caringi selected NSCAA National Coach of the Year

Dave Sarachan is an American former soccer player and coach. Sarachan spent two seasons as a player in the North American Soccer League and four in Major Indoor Soccer League before retiring in 1982. Since then, he has coached at the collegiate, professional, and national team levels. He served as head coach with Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer from 2002 to 2007 and as interim head coach of the United States men's national soccer team from 2017 to 2018. As of July 2023, Sarachan serves as Assistant Coach for Robbie Keane’s Maccabi Tel Aviv Football Club.

The UMBC Retrievers are the athletic teams that represent the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, located in Catonsville, Maryland, in intercollegiate athletics as a member of the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the America East Conference since the 2003–04 academic year. UMBC Stadium is a 4,500-seat stadium on the campus of UMBC in Catonsville, Maryland. The stadium opened in 1976. It is home to the UMBC Retrievers men's and women's lacrosse, field hockey, and track and field programs, as well as an alternate venue for soccer. The stadium has also hosted championships for the Northeast Conference in track and field and conference tournaments for the America East Conference in men's and women's lacrosse, as well as tryouts for US Lacrosse's team to compete in the Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships.

John Ball is an American soccer player who most recently played for the PASL team Cleveland Freeze. He has an extensive career, playing both indoor and outdoor soccer. The America East men's soccer tournament is the conference championship tournament in soccer for the America East Conference. The tournament has been held every year since 1988. It is a single-elimination tournament and seeding is based on regular season records. The Retrievers, led by fifth-year head coach Ryan Odom, played their home games at the UMBC Event Center in Catonsville, Maryland as members of the America East Conference. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Retrievers finished the season 14–6, 10–4 in America East play, to finish in a tie for first place. They lost to UMass Lowell in the semifinals of the America East tournament.
