The Udaya Film Awards is the most prominent award ceremony for Kannada films presented annually by Udaya TV, a Kannada-language division of the Sun Network, from the south-Indian state of Karnataka. The awards ceremony has been instituted to honour both artistic and technical excellence in the Kannada language film industry. Held since 1998, the ceremony was discontinued for over 6 years and made its comeback in 2006. The sponsors have been made by Knockout and Sun Feast before and currently by Vivel Active. [1]

Filmfare Awards South is the South Indian segment of the annual Filmfare Awards. Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar is an Indian director, actor, screenwriter and a lyricist who predominantly works in Kannada Cinema. He made his film debut as a screenplay writer in Kadina Benki (1986) which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film and the Karnataka State Award. His directorial debut was Undu Hoda Kondu Hoda (1991) for which he won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Story.

Veeraswamy Ravichandran is an Indian actor, director, producer, music director, lyricist and editor in the Kannada Film Industry. He is the son of film producer N. Veeraswamy. Kalpana, born Sharat Lata, was an Indian actress who appeared in Kannada films. She was affectionately referred to as Minugu Taare among the film fraternity. She was widely recognised as one of the greatest actresses of Kannada cinema who enjoyed both fan following and critical acclaim. She made her screen debut as a lead actress in the 1963 release Saaku Magalu directed by veteran B. R. Panthulu. During a career that spanned from the early 1960s to the late 1970s, Kalpana appeared in numerous commercially successful as well as critically appreciated films, many of which featured her alongside actor Rajkumar. A is an 1998 Indian Kannada-language romantic psychological thriller film written and directed by Upendra. It stars Upendra in his acting debut and Chandini in the lead roles. The film revolves around a love story between a film director and an actress which is narrated through multiple flashbacks within flashbacks and reverse screenplay. It also explores about the dark truths like casting couch in the film industry. The soundtrack and background score were handled by Gurukiran in his debut film.

Anand is a 1986 Indian Kannada-language film directed by Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. It stars Shiva Rajkumar and Sudha Rani with both making their debuts. The film went on to be a huge success running for 38 weeks.

Held since 2008, the awards' sponsors have been made by Ujala and Confident Group.

Suprabhatha is a 1988 Indian Kannada-language romantic drama film directed, written and filmed by Dinesh Babu, making his debut as a director. The film stars Vishnuvardhan and Suhasini in lead roles, along with Srividya, Maanu and Vijay Kashi in other supporting roles. The film revolves around the relationship between the mute Hema (Suhasini) and Vijay Kumar portrayed by Vishnuvardhan, a man with a stammering problem. The film explores the issue of relationships with the handicapped, revealing the emotional divide b/w their worlds.

Mental Manja is a 2005 Indian Kannada-language romance film directed by Sai Sagar. The film stars newcomers Arjun and Sheethal. The story of this movie shares many similarities to 1995 Kannada movie Om with slight changes. The film was a box office success and ran for fifty days. Arjun earned the name Mental Star from this film. A film titled Mental Manja 2 was announced, but it is not a sequel to this film.

Sagar Puranik is a National Award winning director and actor who predominantly works in Kannada film and Television industry. Sagar made his film debut with Ring Road Suma (2015), which is notable for, it was made by an all-women crew, the first in Kannada language. He was selected as the best debut director (Kannada) in the 11th South Indian International Movie Awards for Dollu, the film won two awards for Best Feature Film – Kannada.
