Ummareddy Venkateswarlu (born 1 July 1935) is an Indian politician who has served as Chief Whip in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council since June 2019. He joined YSR Congress party in November 2012. [7] He was an MLA and senior leader in Telugu Desam Party. [8] [9]
He is a native of Kondubhotla Palem of Bapatla Mandal in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. He holds a doctorate in agriculture and was educated at Andhra Pradesh Agriculture University and Banaras Hindu University.[ citation needed ]
The Telugu Desam Party is an Indian Telugu regional political party with influence in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It was founded by the former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh N. T. Rama Rao (N.T.R.) on 29 March 1982 and has focused on supporting Telugu speakers. The party has won a five-time majority in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly and has emerged as the most successful political outfit in the state's history. It is currently the ruling party in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

Reddy died in office on 12 March 2017 after a massive heart attack at his home in Allagadda.

In 2024 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election he was elected as MLA of Mangalagiri.
