The United Party of Independent Alliance (UPIA) is a political party in Kenya.

History

The party contested the 2022 Kenyan general election as part Azimio La Umoja. [1] Two members were elected to the National Assembly. [2] After the general election, the two UPIA elected members switched to the rival Kenya Kwanza alliance.

He was first elected as a councillor for the defunt Nairobi City Council in 2007 election, before being elected Westlands MP during 2013 elections and defended his seat in the 2017 and 2022 general elections held on 8th August 2017 and 9th August 2022 respectively. He is a half-brother to Moses Wetangula, the Speaker of the National Assembly of Kenya and former senator for Bungoma County. He is a member of the Orange Democratic Movement.

Kenya Kwanza, abbreviated KK is a political alliance headed by William Ruto. Ruto is the presidential candidate and Rigathi Gachagua is the deputy presidential candidate of the alliance. It is composed of UDA, Amani National Congress, FORD–Kenya and many other political parties for the 2022 Kenyan general election.
