The University of South Florida College of Nursing educates nurses at multiple levels from baccalaureate through doctoral degrees. It is one of 14 colleges at the University of South Florida. [1] The college has three campuses: Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee. [1]
The USF College of Nursing was founded in 1973, [2] enrolling its charter class into the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program. The college added a Master of Science in Nursing program in 1980, a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program in 1997, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program in 2005. [2]
The BSN program has expanded to include an accelerated second bachelor's sequence, [3] which is offered at its three campuses: Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee. The college offers an online RN to BSN program [4] through which Registered Nurses can complete a bachelor's degree in patient and staff education, leadership and management, or clinical excellence. The VBSN V-CARE program [5] was created to allow veteran medics and corpsmen to become nurses.
The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program [6] offers concentrations in adult gerontology primary care, adult gerontology acute care, family health, nursing education, occupational health/adult-gerontology primary care, and pediatric health, as well as a concurrent Master of Public Health/MSN in adult-gerontology primary care.
The USF College of Nursing has two doctoral programs: PhD and the DNP. The PhD program [7] prepares nurse scientists to conduct research, publish scholarly work, and conduct faculty activities at research intensive universities. The DNP program [8] was the first such program approved by the Florida Board of Governors, [2] and provides advanced practice residency opportunities in primary care. The DNP in Nurse Anesthesia [9] prepares students to become certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs).
Hospitals affiliating with the college include but are not limited to: Tampa General Hospital, Florida Hospital Tampa, St. Joseph's Hospital, Bayfront Medical Center, All Children's Hospital, James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Morton Plant Hospital, Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, South Florida Baptist Hospital, and Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The USF College of Nursing maintains more than 1,000 health care affiliations [1] throughout Florida to provide clinical experiences at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels.

Vanderbilt University School of Nursing (VUSN) is a graduate school of Vanderbilt University, located in Nashville, Tennessee. VUSN is closely connected with its parent university and the separate nonprofit Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The School of Nursing is ranked in the top 10 in the U.S. News & World Report rankings. Additionally, its Masters of Science program is ranked 8th, and its Doctorate of Nursing practice program 6th in the report's 2022 graduate school rankings.
Texas A&M Health, also known as Texas A&M University Health, and Texas A&M University Health Science Center, is the medical education component of Texas A&M University, and offers health professions research, education and patient care in dentistry, medicine, nursing, biomedical sciences, public health, and pharmacy on its several campuses. In the United States, a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse trained to provide a wide range of mental health services to patients and families in a variety of settings. PMHNPs diagnose, conduct therapy, and prescribe medications for patients who have psychiatric disorders, medical organic brain disorders or substance abuse problems. They are licensed to provide emergency psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessments of their patients, treatment plans, and manage patient care. They may also serve as consultants or as educators for families and staff. The PMHNP has a focus on psychiatric diagnosis, including the differential diagnosis of medical disorders with psychiatric symptoms, and on medication treatment for psychiatric disorders.
The University of South Florida Sarasota–Manatee is a branch campus of the University of South Florida in Sarasota, Florida. USF Sarasota-Manatee was established in 1975 as a regional campus of the University of South Florida and gained separate accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate and master's degrees in June 2011. It was consolidated with the other two USF campuses as of July 1, 2020. Day, evening, weekend and online classes serve more than 14,000 students annually.

Nursing is the largest healthcare profession in the United States, with more than 3.1 million registered nurses. Between 2012 and 2022, employment for nurses is projected to grow by 19 percent, which is more than any other profession. Nurses make up the largest component of staff in hospitals but are also able to provide care in clinic settings, patient's homes, schools, nursing homes, public health agencies, and mental health centers. In addition, nurses can be found in the military, in industry, nursing education, and do health care research. Nurses in these various roles and settings can provide direct patient care and case management, but also develop and establish nursing practice and quality standards within complex healthcare systems. As each degree can provide a different level of care for patients and function in vastly different roles, it is important to differentiate between them. The levels of nursing degrees have different educational requirements, licensure, and credentialing that can vary state to state.
