Up, Over & Out is an album by tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander. It was recorded in 1993 and released by Delmark Records.

Eric Alexander is an American jazz saxophonist, known for his sophisticated hard bop and post-bop style.

Delmark Records is the oldest American jazz and blues independent record label. It was founded in 1958 and is based in Chicago, Illinois. The label originated in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1953 when owner Bob Koester released a recording of the Windy City Six, a traditional jazz group, under the Delmar imprint.

Recording and music

The album was recorded in August 1993.^[1] The four musicians are tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, pianist Harold Mabern, bassist John Ore, and drummer Joe Farnsworth.^[1]

Harold Mabern, Jr. is an American jazz pianist and composer, principally in the hard bop, post-bop, and soul jazz fields. He is described in The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings as "one of the great post-bop pianists".

John Ore was an American jazz bassist.

Joseph Allen Farnsworth is an American jazz drummer.

Up, Over & Out was released by Delmark Records.^[1] It was Alexander's first album as leader without another horn player present.^[2] The AllMusic reviewer wrote that Alexander's "hard bop playing shows that it is quite possible to find an original voice within an older style and sound fresh. This CD is easily recommended to straight-ahead jazz collectors."^[2]

Hard bop is a subgenre of jazz that is an extension of bebop music. Journalists and record companies began using the term in the mid-1950s to describe a new current within jazz which incorporated influences from rhythm and blues, gospel music, and blues, especially in saxophone and piano playing.
